1111 1 AN ACT concerning local government.
1212 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
1313 3 represented in the General Assembly:
1414 4 Section 5. The Counties Code is amended by changing
1515 5 Section 3-6001.5 as follows:
1616 6 (55 ILCS 5/3-6001.5)
1717 7 Sec. 3-6001.5. Sheriff qualifications. A person is not
1818 8 eligible to be elected or appointed to the office of sheriff,
1919 9 unless that person meets all of the following requirements:
2020 10 (1) Is a United States citizen.
2121 11 (2) Has been a resident of the county for at least one
2222 12 year.
2323 13 (3) Is not a convicted felon.
2424 14 (4) The person is seeking election or appointment to:
2525 15 (A) the office of sheriff in a county with a
2626 16 population of less than 3,000,000 and has Has a
2727 17 certificate attesting to the person's his or her
2828 18 successful completion of the Minimum Standards Basic
2929 19 Law Enforcement Officers Training Course, as
3030 20 prescribed by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training
3131 21 Standards Board, or a substantially similar training
3232 22 program of another state or the federal government; or
3333 23 (B) the office of sheriff in a county with a
