3	3	1 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION
4	4	2 WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
5	5	3 Assembly pays honor and respect to the truly great individuals
6	6	4 who have served our country and State and, in doing so, have
7	7	5 made the ultimate sacrifice; and
8	8	6 WHEREAS, Chief Arthur L. Weston of the Rockton Police
9	9	7 Department responded to a burglary-in-progress call on October
10	10	8 27, 1977, locating the suspect in an upstairs bedroom; after
11	11	9 an intense struggle, he was able to place the suspect into
12	12	10 custody; as he was transporting the suspect to jail, he began
13	13	11 to experience chest pains and called for backup; he was taken
14	14	12 to a local hospital, where he died approximately one hour
15	15	13 later; and
16	16	14 WHEREAS, Chief Weston was born to Leo and Dorothy Weston
17	17	15 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on February 1, 1925; he graduated from
18	18	16 West High School in 1943; he served in the U.S. Army during
19	19	17 World War II; he married Marion J. Peck on August 21, 1947; and
20	20	18 WHEREAS, Chief Weston started his career in law
21	21	19 enforcement as a patrolman for the Loves Park Police
22	22	20 Department; he was the former police chief and organizer of
23	23	21 the Rock Valley College Security Force; he also served as
24	24	22 police chief in Byron and Roscoe as well as deputy coroner for

33	33	1 Winnebago County and deputy of the Winnebago County Sheriff's
34	34	2 Department; and
35	35	3 WHEREAS, Chief Weston was a proud member of the Illinois
36	36	4 Police Association, the Rockton Rotary Club, and the Rockton
37	37	5 American Legion; and
38	38	6 WHEREAS, Chief Weston was a loving husband and father to
39	39	7 his wife and his five children; and
40	40	8 WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, Chief Weston was
41	41	9 survived by his wife, Marion Weston, and his children, Cindy
42	42	10 Gau, Vickey Roberts, Debbie Pasch, Wanda Vertterlli, and
43	43	11 William Weston; and
44	44	12 WHEREAS, Chief Weston gave his life in the line of duty,
45	45	13 and his service to and sacrifice for the people of Illinois
46	46	14 should never be forgotten; therefore, be it
47	47	15 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
48	48	16 HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
49	49	17 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the section of
50	50	18 Illinois Route 2 in Rockton as the "Chief Arthur L. Weston
51	51	19 Memorial Highway"; and be it further
52	52	20 RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
