10 | 10 | | 8 WHEREAS, The TRUST Act prohibits law enforcement from |

11 | 11 | | 9 stopping, arresting, searching, detaining, or continuing to |
---|
12 | 12 | | 10 detain a person solely based on an individual's citizenship or |
---|
13 | 13 | | 11 immigration status unless presented with a valid, enforceable |
---|
14 | 14 | | 12 federal warrant, preventing a seamless relationship between |
---|
15 | 15 | | 13 ICE and Illinois law enforcement; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | 14 WHEREAS, The TRUST Act provides that law enforcement shall |

17 | 17 | | 15 not give any immigration agent access to any individual, |
---|
18 | 18 | | 16 transfer any person to the custody of an immigration agent, |
---|
19 | 19 | | 17 permit immigration agents to use facilities or equipment, or |
---|
20 | 20 | | 18 respond to inquiries made by immigration agents regarding any |
---|
21 | 21 | | 19 individual; and |

22 | 22 | | 20 WHEREAS, The TRUST Act limits state and local law |

23 | 23 | | 21 enforcement's participation in federal immigration |

43 | 43 | | 11 unnecessary crimes and putting communities at risk; and |

44 | 44 | | 12 WHEREAS, The TRUST Act jeopardizes Illinois's federal |
---|
45 | 45 | | 13 funding, as the federal government is threatening to withhold |
---|
46 | 46 | | 14 funds from jurisdictions that adopt "sanctuary" policies or |
---|
47 | 47 | | 15 fail to cooperate with immigration enforcement fully; and |
---|
48 | 48 | | 16 WHEREAS, The loss of federal funding will cause additional |
---|
49 | 49 | | 17 hardships on state and local budgets, affecting resources for |
---|
50 | 50 | | 18 services necessary for the citizens of Illinois; therefore, be |
