44 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
55 3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Patricia
66 4 A. "Pat" Mullins Kenny, who passed away on August 31, 2024; and
77 5 WHEREAS, Pat Kenny, the daughter of Dr. Patrick Mullins
88 6 and Mary (Mae) Cagney, was born in Bawtry, England on May 25,
99 7 1940; she and her family eventually emigrated to the United
1010 8 States, settling in the Washington Heights area of New York
1111 9 City; she married John Kenny at St. Elizabeth's Church on
1212 10 September 1, 1962, and they eventually settled in Peoria,
1313 11 where they raised their children; after John's passing in
1414 12 2004, she moved to Springfield; and
1515 13 WHEREAS, Pat Kenny held a multifaceted career; she began
1616 14 the monthly newspaper West Bluff Word in her dining room; she
1717 15 was a devoted Democrat and worked in local Democratic
1818 16 politics; she managed the U.S. Census office in 1980; she had a
1919 17 very successful career in real estate, which she often
2020 18 operated like a charity by giving back her commission to the
2121 19 buyer or seller, claiming they needed it more than she did; and
2222 20 WHEREAS, Pat Kenny was involved in historic preservation,
2323 21 a book club, the garden walk, and numerous other activities;

3333 1 WHEREAS, Pat Kenny preferred wearing her signature purple
3434 2 from head to toe; she loved decorating and entertaining, and
3535 3 she often hosted large parties, including her famous Oscar
3636 4 parties; she also opened her home to anyone who needed a roof
3737 5 over their head; and
3838 6 WHEREAS, Pat Kenny was a lifelong teetotaler and a devout
3939 7 Catholic; she was known for being honest, frank, contrary,
4040 8 extravagant, cosmopolitan, indomitable, resilient,
4141 9 hardheaded, and extraordinarily kind; she will be remembered
4242 10 for providing her progeny with the ability to pursue their
4343 11 goals without caring what anyone thinks, a zest for living,
4444 12 and a well-earned sense of humor; and
4545 13 WHEREAS, Pat Kenny is survived by her children, Maeve
4646 14 (Seamus) Reilly, Michael (Karla), Deirdre (Dave), Paul
4747 15 (Kella), and Grainne (Mark), and 12 grandchildren; therefore,
4848 16 be it
4949 17 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
5050 18 HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
5151 19 we mourn the passing of Patricia "Pat" Mullins Kenny and
5252 20 extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all
5353 21 who knew and loved her; and be it further
