44 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
55 3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Annie
66 4 Pearl (Jones) Howard; and
77 5 WHEREAS, Annie Pearl Howard was born to Nina Mae Jones and
88 6 Johnnie "Buster" Jones in Jackson, Mississippi on May 6, 1938;
99 7 she attended Martin Elementary School; she and her family then
1010 8 moved to Chicago's South Side, settling in the Park Manor
1111 9 neighborhood; she graduated from Doolittle Elementary School
1212 10 and attended Parker High School before returning to Jackson,
1313 11 Mississippi, where she cared for her father while continuing
1414 12 her studies at Jim Hill High School; and
1515 13 WHEREAS, Annie Pearl Howard proceeded to move to New
1616 14 Orleans, Louisiana, where she met and married Roosevelt "Cat"
1717 15 "Catman" Howard, gaining a daughter, Della; together, the
1818 16 couple had four children, Gwendolyn, Annette, Yvette, and
1919 17 Johnny; she and her family relocated to Chicago in 1964, where
2020 18 they welcomed their youngest child, Randy, before settling in
2121 19 the Park Manor neighborhood; and
2222 20 WHEREAS, Annie Pearl Howard was a nurturer by nature and
2323 21 had a way of making people feel seen and cared for, whether
2424 22 through a comforting meal, a listening ear, or a firm but

3333 1 loving word of advice; her home was the heart of every family
3434 2 gathering and holiday celebration, a place where loved ones
3535 3 came together to play games, dance late into the night, and
3636 4 find unwavering support in her presence; and
3737 5 WHEREAS, Annie Pearl Howard committed to her faith at a
3838 6 young age and loved blues music, especially the soulful
3939 7 melodies of Johnny Taylor, B.B. King, Etta James, and Bobby
4040 8 Bland; and
4141 9 WHEREAS, Annie Pearl Howard was a woman of quiet strength
4242 10 and wisdom, bestowing upon her family the knowledge of past
4343 11 generations; she will be remembered for the love she gave, the
4444 12 taste of her cooking, and the sound of her laughter; and
4545 13 WHEREAS, Annie Pearl Howard was preceded in death by her
4646 14 parents; her stepfather, Willie Thornton Jr.; her son, Johnny;
4747 15 and two grandchildren; and
4848 16 WHEREAS, Annie Pearl Howard is survived by her brother,
4949 17 Pretic Buchanan Jr.; her children, Gwendolyn Annette, Yvette
5050 18 Howard, Randy Howard, and Della M. (Kevin) Cyrus; 18
5151 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; her nieces, Theresa Ann
5252 20 Miller Glass and Tanikka Ellis; her nephews, Maurice Green
5353 21 Sr., Clarence Miller, Michael Miller, and Darius McKenzie; and
5454 22 a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and community

6868 4 we mourn the passing of Annie Pearl (Jones) Howard and extend
6969 5 our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who
