4	4	2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
5	5	3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Annie
6	6	4 Pearl (Jones) Howard; and
7	7	5 WHEREAS, Annie Pearl Howard was born to Nina Mae Jones and
8	8	6 Johnnie "Buster" Jones in Jackson, Mississippi on May 6, 1938;
9	9	7 she attended Martin Elementary School; she and her family then
10	10	8 moved to Chicago's South Side, settling in the Park Manor
11	11	9 neighborhood; she graduated from Doolittle Elementary School
12	12	10 and attended Parker High School before returning to Jackson,
13	13	11 Mississippi, where she cared for her father while continuing
14	14	12 her studies at Jim Hill High School; and
15	15	13 WHEREAS, Annie Pearl Howard proceeded to move to New
16	16	14 Orleans, Louisiana, where she met and married Roosevelt "Cat"
17	17	15 "Catman" Howard, gaining a daughter, Della; together, the
18	18	16 couple had four children, Gwendolyn, Annette, Yvette, and
19	19	17 Johnny; she and her family relocated to Chicago in 1964, where
20	20	18 they welcomed their youngest child, Randy, before settling in
21	21	19 the Park Manor neighborhood; and
22	22	20 WHEREAS, Annie Pearl Howard was a nurturer by nature and
23	23	21 had a way of making people feel seen and cared for, whether
24	24	22 through a comforting meal, a listening ear, or a firm but

33	33	1 loving word of advice; her home was the heart of every family
34	34	2 gathering and holiday celebration, a place where loved ones
35	35	3 came together to play games, dance late into the night, and
36	36	4 find unwavering support in her presence; and
37	37	5 WHEREAS, Annie Pearl Howard committed to her faith at a
38	38	6 young age and loved blues music, especially the soulful
39	39	7 melodies of Johnny Taylor, B.B. King, Etta James, and Bobby
40	40	8 Bland; and
41	41	9 WHEREAS, Annie Pearl Howard was a woman of quiet strength
42	42	10 and wisdom, bestowing upon her family the knowledge of past
43	43	11 generations; she will be remembered for the love she gave, the
44	44	12 taste of her cooking, and the sound of her laughter; and
45	45	13 WHEREAS, Annie Pearl Howard was preceded in death by her
46	46	14 parents; her stepfather, Willie Thornton Jr.; her son, Johnny;
47	47	15 and two grandchildren; and
48	48	16 WHEREAS, Annie Pearl Howard is survived by her brother,
49	49	17 Pretic Buchanan Jr.; her children, Gwendolyn Annette, Yvette
50	50	18 Howard, Randy Howard, and Della M. (Kevin) Cyrus; 18
51	51	19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; her nieces, Theresa Ann
52	52	20 Miller Glass and Tanikka Ellis; her nephews, Maurice Green
53	53	21 Sr., Clarence Miller, Michael Miller, and Darius McKenzie; and
54	54	22 a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and community

66	66	2 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
67	67	3 HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
68	68	4 we mourn the passing of Annie Pearl (Jones) Howard and extend
69	69	5 our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who
70	70	6 knew and loved her; and be it further
71	71	7 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
72	72	8 presented to the family of Annie Pearl Howard as an expression
73	73	9 of our deepest sympathy.
