4	4	2 WHEREAS, Gun violence continues to devastate communities
5	5	3 across the State of Illinois, taking the lives of individuals
6	6	4 from all walks of life, leaving families in mourning, and
7	7	5 impacting neighborhoods, schools, and local economies; and
8	8	6 WHEREAS, In 2024, the State of Illinois and the City of
9	9	7 Chicago have seen a tragic loss of lives due to gun violence
10	10	8 with the victim's families and communities affected by the
11	11	9 ripple effects of these senseless acts of violence, with an
12	12	10 estimated 1,400 deaths reported for the State and 505 deaths
13	13	11 from gun violence being reported in the Chicago area alone;
14	14	12 and
15	15	13 WHEREAS, Gun violence disproportionately impacts certain
16	16	14 communities, especially those in urban and economically
17	17	15 disadvantaged areas, where access to resources and support
18	18	16 systems are often limited, leading to repeated cycles of
19	19	17 violence and trauma; and
20	20	18 WHEREAS, It is essential to honor and remember the lives
21	21	19 lost to gun violence, recognizing the humanity and dignity of
22	22	20 each individual who was taken too soon; and
23	23	21 WHEREAS, It is imperative for the State to commit to

33	33	2 violence, including poverty, lack of access to mental health
34	34	3 care, limited opportunities for youth, and systemic inequities
35	35	4 that fuel cycles of violence; and
36	36	5 WHEREAS, The State of Illinois has taken steps in previous
37	37	6 years to fund and implement violence prevention programs, and
38	38	7 it is imperative that these efforts continue with a focus on
39	39	8 long-term solutions, community-led initiatives, and
40	40	9 coordination between local, state, and federal resources; and
41	41	10 WHEREAS, Prioritizing funding for violence prevention and
42	42	11 reduction efforts in disproportionately impacted areas of the
43	43	12 state, where gun violence has been a persistent challenge for
44	44	13 years and where additional resources are needed, is essential
45	45	14 to building safer, stronger, and more resilient communities;
46	46	15 therefore, be it
47	47	16 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE

320	320	4 RESOLVED, That we reaffirm our commitment to continue and
321	321	5 to expand funding for violence prevention programs across the
322	322	6 State with special attention and priority given to communities
323	323	7 that have long experienced the devastating effects of gun
324	324	8 violence, particularly those that are disproportionately
325	325	9 impacted by systemic inequities; and be it further
326	326	10 RESOLVED, That we urge local, state, and the federal
327	327	11 government to work collaboratively to create safer communities
328	328	12 through targeted investments in education, job creation,
329	329	13 mental health support, community policing, and other violence
330	330	14 reduction strategies while working to address the root causes
331	331	15 of violence and inequality in our society; and be it further
332	332	16 RESOLVED, That we reaffirm our commitment to the ongoing
333	333	17 fight to end gun violence in all forms and to ensure that
334	334	18 future generations grow up in a state where they are safe,
335	335	19 supported, and given every opportunity to thrive; and be it
