44 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
55 3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Clarence
66 4 Thomas, who passed away on February 26, 2025; and
77 5 WHEREAS, Clarence Thomas was born to Viola (Wordlaw) and
88 6 Henry Thomas on January 9, 1953; he graduated from Austin High
99 7 School in 1971; he attended the University of Wisconsin
1010 8 Oshkosh; and
1111 9 WHEREAS, Clarence Thomas served as the supervisor of
1212 10 building and grounds for Maywood-Melrose Park-Broadview School
1313 11 District 89, demonstrating his commitment to education and his
1414 12 community's infrastructure; and
1515 13 WHEREAS, Clarence Thomas began his political career as a
1616 14 precinct captain for the 29th Ward Democratic Organization in
1717 15 1975; his career spanned across five decades while he served
1818 16 as an adviser on congressional, statewide, and county races
1919 17 for various candidates running for the U.S. Senate, Governor,
2020 18 State's Attorney, and county board seats; and
2121 19 WHEREAS, Clarence Thomas was elected as a trustee of
2222 20 Proviso Township in 2017, and he was reelected in 2021,

3232 1 WHEREAS, Clarence Thomas served on the board of the
3333 2 Campaign For a Drug Free Westside from 2008 to 2020; and
3434 3 WHEREAS, Clarence Thomas was a devoted father, committed
3535 4 public servant, and tireless community advocate whose greatest
3636 5 pride was his family and the numerous young men he mentored
3737 6 throughout the years; his political acumen and dedication will
3838 7 inspire generations to come; and
3939 8 WHEREAS, Clarence Thomas was preceded in death by his
4040 9 parents; and
4141 10 WHEREAS, Clarence Thomas is survived by his children,
4242 11 Malcolm (Shawn) Smith, Dauwn (Mario) Houston, Taya (Jeremi)
4343 12 Bryant, Marcus (Dawn) Thomas, and Jada Thomas; ten
4444 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
4545 14 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4646 15 HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
4747 16 we mourn the passing of Clarence Thomas and extend our sincere
4848 17 condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
4949 18 him; and be it further
5050 19 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
