44 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
55 3 Representatives wish to congratulate Bernice (Schmahl)
66 4 Timmermann on the occasion of her 100th birthday on June 16,
77 5 2025; and
88 6 WHEREAS, Bernice Schmahl was born in Des Plaines on June
99 7 16, 1925; she was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Des
1010 8 Plaines, where she has been a member for 100 years; and
1111 9 WHEREAS, After meeting her future husband at a dance,
1212 10 Bernice Schmahl married Al Timmermann at her church on August
1313 11 19, 1944; and
1414 12 WHEREAS, Seventy-five years ago in 1950, the Timmermanns
1515 13 bought their first house on Thorndale in unincorporated Leyden
1616 14 Township; at that time, their new community was informally
1717 15 known as Mudville until it was incorporated as part of the new
1818 16 Village of Rosemont in 1956; and
1919 17 WHEREAS, As their first Rosemont house and homesite were
2020 18 taken over for construction of the new O'Hare International
2121 19 Airport, Bernice and Al Timmermann retained their connection
2222 20 to Rosemont by buying a lot on Scott Street; the house they
2323 21 built for themselves at that site is the house that Bernice

3232 1 Timmermann lives in to this day; and
3333 2 WHEREAS, Bernice and Al Timmermann were anchors of
3434 3 Rosemont for decades; Al Timmermann was the assistant fire
3535 4 chief of the village, and Bernice helped maintain the fire
3636 5 protection infrastructure of the village; and
3737 6 WHEREAS, As a fire protection infrastructure supervisor
3838 7 with the title of Restrictive Radiotelephone Operator, Bernice
3939 8 Timmermann used her home to guard and maintain the host radio
4040 9 dispatch device that communicated with the firefighters'
4141 10 walkie-talkies; and
4242 11 WHEREAS, Bernice Timmermann had to frequently, for at
4343 12 least one week in every calendar month, be on call to oversee
4444 13 the telephone circuit and the radio frequency; and
4545 14 WHEREAS, When on call, Bernice Timmermann blew the daily
4646 15 fire siren, which was tested every day at 9:00 p.m.; and
4747 16 WHEREAS, Bernice Timmermann also served as the president
4848 17 of the North Leyden Fire Women's Auxiliary, where they had
4949 18 bake sales and fire department dances to raise money to help
5050 19 pay for the Rosemont's first fire truck; and
5151 20 WHEREAS, Later on in her life, Bernice Timmermann was the

6262 1 president of the Rosemont Senior Club; and
6363 2 WHEREAS, Bernice and Al Timmermann had four children,
6464 3 Elaine, Norm, Sue, and Gary, and she now has nine
6565 4 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren; her family has
6666 5 grown to 33 members, and Bernice is a blessing to all of them;
6767 6 therefore, be it
6868 7 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
6969 8 HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
7070 9 we congratulate Bernice (Schmahl) Timmermann on the occasion
7171 10 of her 100th birthday, and we wish her many more wonderful
7272 11 years; and be it further
7373 12 RESOLVED, That we recognize the service of Al and Bernice
7474 13 Timmermann to the Village of Rosemont as shining examples of
7575 14 Illinois community life; and be it further
7676 15 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7777 16 presented to Bernice Timmermann as recognition of her one
7878 17 hundred years of life in the State of Illinois.
