4	4	2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
5	5	3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of James
6	6	4 "Jim" Goshorn of Gurnee, formerly of Grove City, Pennsylvania,
7	7	5 who passed away on February 13, 2025; and
8	8	6 WHEREAS, Jim Goshorn was born and raised in Grove City,
9	9	7 Pennsylvania, where he attended Lincoln Elementary School and
10	10	8 Grove City High School; he earned his Bachelor of Science in
11	11	9 Education in 1977 and his Master of Education in 1979, both
12	12	10 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania; he married Mary Beth
13	13	11 (Welter) Goshorn; and
14	14	12 WHEREAS, Jim Goshorn began his career in education at
15	15	13 Pottstown Elementary School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, where
16	16	14 he nurtured young minds and left a lasting impact on the lives
17	17	15 of his students; although he was deeply passionate about
18	18	16 teaching, he made a career shift that eventually led him to
19	19	17 Gurnee, where he and his wife relocated in 1993; he first
20	20	18 worked at Baxter Healthcare before transitioning to Abbott
21	21	19 Labs/AbbVie, where he enjoyed a successful 29-year career;
22	22	20 after retiring, he worked at Heather Ridge Golf Course; and
23	23	21 WHEREAS, Jim Goshorn was a dedicated and active member of
24	24	22 the Gurnee community, beginning during his children's early

33	33	1 years in the 1990s when he volunteered as a sports coach and
34	34	2 became a committed supporter of the Friends of Gurnee Park
35	35	3 District Foundation; he was elected to the Gurnee Park
36	36	4 District's Board of Commissioners in 2009, serving as
37	37	5 president from 2013 until his passing; his leadership was
38	38	6 driven by his deep commitment to fostering growth,
39	39	7 inclusivity, and opportunities for generations to come, and he
40	40	8 cherished the relationships he developed with the staff,
41	41	9 board, and community members; and
42	42	10 WHEREAS, Jim Goshorn was a passionate music lover and was
43	43	11 equally passionate about the outdoors, enjoying biking along
44	44	12 scenic paths, playing rounds of golf, and spending time in his
45	45	13 favorite Gurnee parks; and
46	46	14 WHEREAS, Jim Goshorn was a devoted spouse, father, and
47	47	15 friend and a proud member of the Gurnee community; he was known
48	48	16 for his kindness, wisdom, and tireless efforts to improve the
49	49	17 lives of others, and he was skilled at bringing people
50	50	18 together, inspiring positive change, and always leaving things
51	51	19 better than he found them; his legacy will continue to thrive
52	52	20 in the parks, programs, and lives he touched; and
53	53	21 WHEREAS, Jim Goshorn was preceded in death by his parents,
54	54	22 William and Jean Goshorn; and

65	65	1 WHEREAS, Jim Goshorn is survived by his wife; his
66	66	2 children, Allyson and Christopher; his siblings, Susan
67	67	3 (Goshorn) Scalzi and David Goshorn; his nieces, Francesca and
68	68	4 Jennifer; his nephew, RJ; and many friends, colleagues, and
69	69	5 community members; therefore, be it
70	70	6 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
71	71	7 HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
72	72	8 we mourn the passing of James "Jim" Goshorn and extend our
73	73	9 sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
74	74	10 and loved him; and be it further
75	75	11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
76	76	12 presented to the family of Jim Goshorn as an expression of our
77	77	13 deepest sympathy.
