44 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
55 3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of James
66 4 "Jim" Goshorn of Gurnee, formerly of Grove City, Pennsylvania,
77 5 who passed away on February 13, 2025; and
88 6 WHEREAS, Jim Goshorn was born and raised in Grove City,
99 7 Pennsylvania, where he attended Lincoln Elementary School and
1010 8 Grove City High School; he earned his Bachelor of Science in
1111 9 Education in 1977 and his Master of Education in 1979, both
1212 10 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania; he married Mary Beth
1313 11 (Welter) Goshorn; and
1414 12 WHEREAS, Jim Goshorn began his career in education at
1515 13 Pottstown Elementary School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, where
1616 14 he nurtured young minds and left a lasting impact on the lives
1717 15 of his students; although he was deeply passionate about
1818 16 teaching, he made a career shift that eventually led him to
1919 17 Gurnee, where he and his wife relocated in 1993; he first
2020 18 worked at Baxter Healthcare before transitioning to Abbott
2121 19 Labs/AbbVie, where he enjoyed a successful 29-year career;
2222 20 after retiring, he worked at Heather Ridge Golf Course; and
2323 21 WHEREAS, Jim Goshorn was a dedicated and active member of
2424 22 the Gurnee community, beginning during his children's early

3333 1 years in the 1990s when he volunteered as a sports coach and
3434 2 became a committed supporter of the Friends of Gurnee Park
3535 3 District Foundation; he was elected to the Gurnee Park
3636 4 District's Board of Commissioners in 2009, serving as
3737 5 president from 2013 until his passing; his leadership was
3838 6 driven by his deep commitment to fostering growth,
3939 7 inclusivity, and opportunities for generations to come, and he
4040 8 cherished the relationships he developed with the staff,
4141 9 board, and community members; and
4242 10 WHEREAS, Jim Goshorn was a passionate music lover and was
4343 11 equally passionate about the outdoors, enjoying biking along
4444 12 scenic paths, playing rounds of golf, and spending time in his
4545 13 favorite Gurnee parks; and
4646 14 WHEREAS, Jim Goshorn was a devoted spouse, father, and
4747 15 friend and a proud member of the Gurnee community; he was known
4848 16 for his kindness, wisdom, and tireless efforts to improve the
4949 17 lives of others, and he was skilled at bringing people
5050 18 together, inspiring positive change, and always leaving things
5151 19 better than he found them; his legacy will continue to thrive
5252 20 in the parks, programs, and lives he touched; and
5353 21 WHEREAS, Jim Goshorn was preceded in death by his parents,
5454 22 William and Jean Goshorn; and

6565 1 WHEREAS, Jim Goshorn is survived by his wife; his
6666 2 children, Allyson and Christopher; his siblings, Susan
6767 3 (Goshorn) Scalzi and David Goshorn; his nieces, Francesca and
6868 4 Jennifer; his nephew, RJ; and many friends, colleagues, and
6969 5 community members; therefore, be it
7070 6 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
7171 7 HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
7272 8 we mourn the passing of James "Jim" Goshorn and extend our
7373 9 sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
7474 10 and loved him; and be it further
7575 11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7676 12 presented to the family of Jim Goshorn as an expression of our
7777 13 deepest sympathy.
