44 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
55 3 Representatives wish to recognize the University of Illinois
66 4 Chicago (UIC) for its Chair Chats series and its upcoming
77 5 event featuring legendary coach and leadership mentor Mike
88 6 "Coach K" Krzyzewski in conversation with UIC Chancellor Marie
99 7 Lynn Miranda to share lessons of leadership and success; and
1010 8 WHEREAS, UIC, as Chicago's only public research
1111 9 university, is advancing its mission to provide the broadest
1212 10 access to the highest levels of educational, research, and
1313 11 clinical excellence; UIC has been nationally recognized for
1414 12 bringing social mobility to its students by equipping them
1515 13 with degrees that allow them to compete globally and lead
1616 14 meaningful lives for students of all backgrounds; and
1717 15 WHEREAS, UIC plays a vital role in contributing to the
1818 16 State's critical workforce by generating research that
1919 17 elevates the quality of life, expanding the knowledge economy
2020 18 across our State and nation, and reducing healthcare
2121 19 disparities; and
2222 20 WHEREAS, Through its world-class faculty, research

3838 6 distinguished leaders and influential visionaries to campus,
3939 7 fostering insightful discussions on leadership, ethics,
4040 8 equity, and social change; by enriching students' educational
4141 9 experiences, providing faculty and researchers with valuable
4242 10 opportunities for engagement, and strengthening UIC's role as
4343 11 a civic and intellectual hub, the series enhances the
4444 12 university's impact in Chicago and beyond; and
4545 13 WHEREAS, The Chair Chat event on April 14, 2025 features
4646 14 Mike "Coach K" Krzyzewski, the Hall of Fame former head coach
4747 15 of Duke University men's basketball, who led the Blue Devils
4848 16 to five national championships and guided Team USA to three
4949 17 Olympic gold medals; Coach K is a globally recognized
5050 18 leadership expert, co-founder of the Coach K Center on
5151 19 Leadership and Ethics at Duke University's Fuqua School of
5252 20 Business, and a respected authority on teamwork, resilience,
5353 21 and leadership; and
5454 22 WHEREAS, UIC Chancellor Dr. Marie Lynn Miranda is a

7070 5 Children's Environmental Health Initiative (CEHI), a research,

7272 7 environments where all people can prosper; and
7373 8 WHEREAS, As UIC's chancellor, Dr. Marie Lynn Miranda is
7474 9 deeply committed to student success, faculty scholarship, and
7575 10 the university's mission to serve the public good; she is a
7676 11 strong advocate for expanding educational access, accelerating
7777 12 social mobility for all students, and strengthening UIC's $500
7878 13 million research enterprise; under her leadership, UIC
