4	4	2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
5	5	3 Representatives wish to recognize the University of Illinois
6	6	4 Chicago (UIC) for its Chair Chats series and its upcoming
7	7	5 event featuring legendary coach and leadership mentor Mike
8	8	6 "Coach K" Krzyzewski in conversation with UIC Chancellor Marie
9	9	7 Lynn Miranda to share lessons of leadership and success; and
10	10	8 WHEREAS, UIC, as Chicago's only public research
11	11	9 university, is advancing its mission to provide the broadest
12	12	10 access to the highest levels of educational, research, and
13	13	11 clinical excellence; UIC has been nationally recognized for
14	14	12 bringing social mobility to its students by equipping them
15	15	13 with degrees that allow them to compete globally and lead
16	16	14 meaningful lives for students of all backgrounds; and
17	17	15 WHEREAS, UIC plays a vital role in contributing to the
18	18	16 State's critical workforce by generating research that
19	19	17 elevates the quality of life, expanding the knowledge economy
20	20	18 across our State and nation, and reducing healthcare
21	21	19 disparities; and
22	22	20 WHEREAS, Through its world-class faculty, research
23	23	21 activities, and community outreach, UIC is committed to
24	24	22 developing multidisciplinary solutions that tackle society's

34	34	2 inequalities, and the erosion of our democratic institutions
35	35	3 in partnerships with industry, government entities, and
36	36	4 nonprofit organizations; and
37	37	5 WHEREAS, The Chair Chats series at UIC brings
38	38	6 distinguished leaders and influential visionaries to campus,
39	39	7 fostering insightful discussions on leadership, ethics,
40	40	8 equity, and social change; by enriching students' educational
41	41	9 experiences, providing faculty and researchers with valuable
42	42	10 opportunities for engagement, and strengthening UIC's role as
43	43	11 a civic and intellectual hub, the series enhances the
44	44	12 university's impact in Chicago and beyond; and
45	45	13 WHEREAS, The Chair Chat event on April 14, 2025 features
46	46	14 Mike "Coach K" Krzyzewski, the Hall of Fame former head coach
47	47	15 of Duke University men's basketball, who led the Blue Devils
48	48	16 to five national championships and guided Team USA to three
49	49	17 Olympic gold medals; Coach K is a globally recognized
50	50	18 leadership expert, co-founder of the Coach K Center on
51	51	19 Leadership and Ethics at Duke University's Fuqua School of
52	52	20 Business, and a respected authority on teamwork, resilience,
53	53	21 and leadership; and
54	54	22 WHEREAS, UIC Chancellor Dr. Marie Lynn Miranda is a
55	55	23 renowned scholar in geospatial health informatics and an

67	67	2 university's tenth chancellor since 2023; throughout her
68	68	3 career, she has been dedicated to advancing health equity and
69	69	4 environmental justice; she also serves as the director of the
70	70	5 Children's Environmental Health Initiative (CEHI), a research,
71	71	6 education, and outreach program committed to creating
72	72	7 environments where all people can prosper; and
73	73	8 WHEREAS, As UIC's chancellor, Dr. Marie Lynn Miranda is
74	74	9 deeply committed to student success, faculty scholarship, and
75	75	10 the university's mission to serve the public good; she is a
76	76	11 strong advocate for expanding educational access, accelerating
77	77	12 social mobility for all students, and strengthening UIC's $500
78	78	13 million research enterprise; under her leadership, UIC
79	79	14 continues to drive economic growth, advance public health, and
80	80	15 develop innovative solutions to society's grand challenges
81	81	16 through the expansion of knowledge; and
82	82	17 WHEREAS, The Chair Chats series further underscores UIC's
83	83	18 commitment to educational excellence, research innovation, and
84	84	19 civic engagement by connecting students, faculty, and
85	85	20 community stakeholders with impactful leaders who inspire
86	86	21 meaningful change; therefore, be it
87	87	22 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
