1111 1 AN ACT concerning safety.
1212 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
1313 3 represented in the General Assembly:
1414 4 Section 5. The Environmental Protection Act is amended by
1515 5 adding Section 22.23g as follows:
1616 6 (415 ILCS 5/22.23g new)
1717 7 Sec. 22.23g. Photovoltaic modules.
1818 8 (a) As used in this Section:
1919 9 "Consumer electronic device" means any device containing
2020 10 an electronic circuit board that is intended for everyday use
2121 11 by individuals.
2222 12 "Photovoltaic module" means the smallest, nondivisible,
2323 13 environmentally protected assembly of photovoltaic cells or
2424 14 other photovoltaic collector technology, and any ancillary
2525 15 part, intended to generate electrical power under sunlight.
2626 16 "Photovoltaic module" does not include a photovoltaic cell
2727 17 that is part of a consumer electronic device for which it
2828 18 provides electricity needed to make the consumer electronic
2929 19 device function. "Photovoltaic module" includes, but is not
3030 20 limited to, interconnections, terminals, and protective
3131 21 devices, such as diodes, that are:
3232 22 (1) installed on, connected to, or integral to
3333 23 buildings;

7575 8 (b) Beginning January 1, 2028, no person may knowingly
7676 9 cause or allow the mixing of a photovoltaic module with
7777 10 municipal waste that is intended for disposal at a landfill.
7878 11 (c) Beginning January 1, 2028, no person may knowingly
7979 12 cause or allow the disposal of a photovoltaic module in a
