14	14	1 AN ACT concerning education.
15	15	2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
16	16	3 represented in the General Assembly:
17	17	4 Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections
18	18	5 10-20.88 and 34-18.88 as follows:
19	19	6 (105 ILCS 5/10-20.88 new)
20	20	7 Sec. 10-20.88. Library materials database; restriction on
21	21	8 student's access to library materials.
22	22	9 (a) A school board shall require a school that operates a
23	23	10 library to place the library's catalog of library materials in
24	24	11 a searchable database accessible over the Internet to a parent
25	25	12 or guardian of a student at the school.
26	26	13 (b) A school board shall require a school that operates a
27	27	14 library to allow a parent or guardian of a student at the
28	28	15 school to prohibit the student from accessing any library
29	29	16 materials that the parent or guardian designates. The school
30	30	17 shall require the parent or guardian to designate in writing
31	31	18 which library materials the parent or guardian is prohibiting
32	32	19 the student from accessing, shall keep the written designation
33	33	20 on file in the library, and shall prevent the student from
34	34	21 accessing that material.
