1111 1 AN ACT concerning local government.
1212 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
1313 3 represented in the General Assembly:
1414 4 Section 5. The Illinois Municipal Code is amended by
1515 5 changing Section 3.1-20-22 as follows:
1616 6 (65 ILCS 5/3.1-20-22) (from Ch. 24, par. 3.1-20-22)
1717 7 Sec. 3.1-20-22. Alderpersons; staggered terms. In any city
1818 8 of less than 100,000 inhabitants, a proposition to stagger the
1919 9 terms of alderpersons, with as nearly as possible one-half of
2020 10 the alderpersons elected every 2 years, shall be certified by
2121 11 the city clerk to the proper election authority, who shall
2222 12 submit the proposition at an election in accordance with the
2323 13 general election law, if a petition requesting that action is
2424 14 signed by electors of the city numbering at least 10% of the
2525 15 total vote cast at the last election for mayor of the city and
2626 16 is filed with the city clerk.
2727 17 The ballot shall have printed on it, but not as a part of
2828 18 the proposition submitted, the following information for
2929 19 voters: one alderperson elected from each even-numbered ward
3030 20 shall serve a term of 2 years; one alderperson elected from
3131 21 each odd-numbered ward shall serve a term of 4 years.
