311 1 AN ACT concerning State government.
412 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

614 4 Section 5. The Department of Transportation Law of the

11-9 (a) The Department has the power to develop, consolidate,
12-10 and coordinate effective programs and activities for the

1927 17 activities. The Department has the power to aid and assist the

2230 20 traffic crashes. That aid and assistance to counties, cities,
2331 21 towns, and other political subdivisions of this State shall
2432 22 include assistance with regard to planning, traffic flow,
2533 23 light synchronizing, preferential lanes for carpools, and

35-2 (b) To further the prevention of crashes, the Department
36-3 shall conduct a traffic study following the occurrence of any
37-4 crash involving a pedestrian fatality that occurs at an
38-5 intersection of a State highway. The study shall include, but
39-6 not be limited to, consideration of alternative geometric
40-7 design improvements, traffic control devices, and any other
41-8 improvements that the Department deems necessary to reduce
42-9 traffic crashes and fatalities at the location. The Department
43-10 shall make the results of the study available to the public on
44-11 its website.
45-12 (1) As part of the study, the Department shall
46-13 identify trends, patterns, and correlations including, but
47-14 not limited to, trends, patterns, and correlations
48-15 associated with the occurrence of fatal or serious injury
49-16 traffic crash outcomes in pedestrians and bicyclists
50-17 population groups.
51-18 (2) If appropriate, the Department shall conduct
52-19 analyses and identify potential actions to increase
53-20 traffic safety, which may include, but are not limited to,
54-21 modifications to street design and infrastructure.
55-22 (3) In conducting analyses and in identifying
56-23 potential actions, the Department shall coordinate with
57-24 any other department, agency, or organization deemed
58-25 relevant by the Department.
59-26 (4) The Department shall make the reports of the
