1313 1 AN ACT concerning education.
1414 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
1515 3 represented in the General Assembly:
1616 4 Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section
1717 5 27-23.19 as follows:
1818 6 (105 ILCS 5/27-23.19 new)
1919 7 Sec. 27-23.19. Public safety and police engagement
2020 8 training curriculum.
2121 9 (a) Beginning with the 2027-2028 school year, if funds are
2222 10 available, whether through public or private funding, a school
2323 11 district shall provide a minimum of 3 hours of instruction for
2424 12 students in any of grades 7 through 12 on each of the following
2525 13 topics:
2626 14 (1) Legal aspects explaining the law and penalties
2727 15 for:
2828 16 (A) obstructing justice and obstructing the
2929 17 police; and
3030 18 (B) weapon offenses, narcotic offenses, acts of
3131 19 violence offenses, and sex crimes.
3232 20 (2) Responding to a police encounter by:
3333 21 (A) explaining how the police respond to
3434 22 situations, things officers look for from a police
3535 23 perspective, and the reasons for commands and

8484 9 (B) obtaining information concerning future

8686 11 (C) the proper ways in which to levy complaints.
8787 12 (b) A school board may include the required instruction in
8888 13 the courses of study regularly taught in the public schools of
8989 14 the district.

9191 16 available to school boards resource materials that may be used
9292 17 as guidelines for the development of instruction under this
9393 18 Section.
