311 1 AN ACT concerning education.
412 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
513 3 represented in the General Assembly:
614 4 Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section
715 5 2-3.206 as follows:
816 6 (105 ILCS 5/2-3.206 new)
9-7 Sec. 2-3.206. American Sign Language implementation. No
10-8 later than July 1, 2026, the State Board of Education shall
11-9 encourage districts to collect teaching resources to support
12-10 American Sign Language programs. The teaching resources may
13-11 include, but need not be limited to:
14-12 (1) the importance and benefits of American Sign
15-13 Language instruction for early ages and the prevalence of
16-14 American Sign Language in the United States;
17-15 (2) information on ways to implement American Sign
18-16 Language instruction into kindergarten through grade 8
19-17 curriculum; and
20-18 (3) information on how to properly administer American
21-19 Sign Language instruction for students in kindergarten
22-20 through grade 8.

18+8 (a) No Later than July 1, 2026, the State Board of
19+9 Education shall create educational materials that shall be
