11	11	1 AN ACT concerning veterans.
12	12	2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
13	13	3 represented in the General Assembly:
14	14	4 Section 5. The Veterans Preference in Private Employment
15	15	5 Act is amended by changing Section 10 as follows:

17	17	7 Sec. 10. Definitions. As used in this Act:
18	18	8 "Armed forces of the United States" means the United
19	19	9 States Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard,
20	20	10 or the reserve component of any of those, and includes the
21	21	11 Illinois National Guard.
22	22	12 "Private employer" means any non-public sole proprietor,
23	23	13 corporation, partnership, limited liability company, or other
24	24	14 private, non-public entity employing one or more employees
25	25	15 within Illinois.
26	26	16 "Veteran" means an individual who meets one or more of the
27	27	17 following:
28	28	18 (1) has served on active duty with the armed forces of
29	29	19 the United States for a period of more than 180 days and
30	30	20 was discharged or released from active duty under
31	31	21 conditions other than dishonorable;
32	32	22 (2) was discharged or released from active duty with
33	33	23 the armed forces of the United States because of a

69	69	2 (3) is a member of the Illinois National Guard or

74	74	7 "Veterans' preference employment policy" means a private
75	75	8 employer's voluntary preference for hiring, promoting, or
76	76	9 retaining a veteran over another equally qualified applicant
77	77	10 or employee.
