18 | 18 | | 8 (a) Except as provided elsewhere in this Section, every |

19 | 19 | | 9 driver's license issued under the provisions of this Code |
---|
20 | 20 | | 10 shall expire 4 years from the date of its issuance, or at such |
---|
21 | 21 | | 11 later date, as the Secretary of State may by proper rule and |
---|
22 | 22 | | 12 regulation designate, not to exceed 12 calendar months; in the |
---|
23 | 23 | | 13 event that an applicant for renewal of a driver's license |
---|
24 | 24 | | 14 fails to apply prior to the expiration date of the previous |
---|
25 | 25 | | 15 driver's license, the renewal driver's license shall expire 4 |
---|
26 | 26 | | 16 years from the expiration date of the previous driver's |
---|
27 | 27 | | 17 license, or at such later date as the Secretary of State may by |
---|
28 | 28 | | 18 proper rule and regulation designate, not to exceed 12 |
---|
29 | 29 | | 19 calendar months. |

30 | 30 | | 20 The Secretary of State may, however, issue to a person not |

---|
77 | 77 | | 10 asylum in the United States or has entered the United States in |
---|
78 | 78 | | 11 refugee status, shall expire on whichever is the earlier date |
---|
79 | 79 | | 12 of the following: |
---|
80 | 80 | | 13 (1) as provided under subsection (a), (f), (g), or (i) |
---|
81 | 81 | | 14 of this Section; |
---|
82 | 82 | | 15 (2) on the date the applicant's authorized stay in the |
---|
83 | 83 | | 16 United States terminates; or |
---|
84 | 84 | | 17 (3) if the applicant's authorized stay is indefinite |
---|
85 | 85 | | 18 and the applicant is applying for a Limited Term REAL ID |
---|
86 | 86 | | 19 compliant driver's license, one year from the date of |
---|
87 | 87 | | 20 issuance of the license. |

88 | 88 | | 21 (a-10) Every REAL ID compliant driver's license issued |

162 | 162 | | 23 birthday. Persons whose current driver's licenses expire on |
