4	4	2 WHEREAS, Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of
5	5	3 death in women, claiming more lives than all forms of cancer
6	6	4 combined, and yet only 44% of women recognize that
7	7	5 cardiovascular disease is the greatest health threat they
8	8	6 face; and
9	9	7 WHEREAS, Among females aged 20 and older, nearly 45% are
10	10	8 living with some form of cardiovascular disease, and less than
11	11	9 half of women entering pregnancy in the United States have
12	12	10 optimal cardiovascular health; and
13	13	11 WHEREAS, Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of
14	14	12 maternal death in the U.S.; more simply put, heart disease is
15	15	13 the number one killer of new mothers; and
16	16	14 WHEREAS, Overall, 10% to 20% of women will have a health
17	17	15 issue during pregnancy, and high blood pressure, preeclampsia,
18	18	16 and gestational diabetes during pregnancy greatly increase a
19	19	17 women's risk of developing cardiovascular disease later in
20	20	18 life; and
21	21	19 WHEREAS, Most cardiac and stroke events can be prevented
22	22	20 through education and lifestyle changes, including moving
23	23	21 more, eating smart, and managing blood pressure; and

32	32	1 WHEREAS, In 2020, strokes caused the deaths of 90,627
33	33	2 females, accounting for approximately 56.5% of total stroke
34	34	3 deaths; and
35	35	4 WHEREAS, Women are often less likely to receive bystander
36	36	5 CPR because rescuers may fear accusations of inappropriate
37	37	6 touching, sexual assault, or injuring the victim; and
38	38	7 WHEREAS, There are significant biological differences
39	39	8 between men and women, and clinical trials have not always
40	40	9 adequately enrolled women or analyzed sex-specific differences
41	41	10 in the data; as of 2020, only 38% of cardiovascular clinical
42	42	11 research trial participants are women; and
43	43	12 WHEREAS, By increasing awareness, speaking out about heart
44	44	13 disease, and empowering women to reduce their risk for
45	45	14 cardiovascular disease, we can save thousands of lives each
46	46	15 year; and
47	47	16 WHEREAS, Since 2004, the American Heart Association's Go
48	48	17 Red for Women movement has addressed the awareness and
49	49	18 clinical care gaps of cardiovascular disease, women's greatest
50	50	19 health threat, and continues to make bold moves to save lives
51	51	20 and pioneer scientific discoveries; therefore, be it
