44 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
55 3 to learn of the death of Don Sneider, who passed away on
66 4 November 14, 2024; and
77 5 WHEREAS, Don Sneider was born to Agnes and Sam Sneider in
88 6 Chicago on October 9, 1936; he graduated from Von Steuben High
99 7 School in 1954; he received his bachelor's degree in zoology
1010 8 from the University of Illinois in 1958 and his master's
1111 9 degree in education from DePaul University in 1963; he married
1212 10 his wife, Marilyn, at the Sheraton Towers Chicago in June
1313 11 1960; and
1414 12 WHEREAS, Don Sneider taught science, math, language arts,
1515 13 drivers' education, and special education at Dirksen, where he
1616 14 also served as assistant principal, Von Steuben, Stockton,
1717 15 Alcott, and Sauganash schools over the course of a 35-year
1818 16 career; and
1919 17 WHEREAS, Don Sneider was elected to the Morton Grove
2020 18 Village Board in 1977, working tirelessly for 23 years as the
2121 19 longest-serving village trustee in Morton Grove; during his
2222 20 time in office, he helped pass countless laws and implement a
2323 21 number of programs; he was instrumental in enabling Morton
2424 22 Grove to become the first village on the north shore to install

3333 1 cable television, and he also assisted Morton Grove to become
3434 2 the first village in the nation to ban the private possession
3535 3 of handguns, leading to him and his fellow board members being
3636 4 featured in Life Magazine; and
3737 5 WHEREAS, Don Sneider worked as a counselor at Deborah Boys
3838 6 Club in his spare time, where he supervised pre-teen physical
3939 7 education programs and game room activities; he was also a
4040 8 member of Congregation Beth Shalom and the Northwest Suburban
4141 9 Jewish Congregation, where he served as commission chair of
4242 10 the United Synagogue Youth (USY) and was active in the men's
4343 11 club; and
4444 12 WHEREAS, Don Sneider enjoyed keeping up with the news and
4545 13 politics, learning about history, and watching movies; he was
4646 14 an avid fan of Chicago sports, especially the Chicago Cubs; he
4747 15 and his wife loved traveling, socializing with their couples'
4848 16 club, volunteering at their synagogue, and being active in the
4949 17 Morton Grove Action Party; and
5050 18 WHEREAS, Don Sneider was known for his kindness, his
5151 19 generosity, and his ability to get things done for his
5252 20 community; he loved his friends and family, and he especially
5353 21 treasured the time he spent babysitting his grandchildren; he
5454 22 touched the lives of many, and he will be remembered for his
5555 23 legacy of trust, patience, guidance, and strength; and

6666 1 WHEREAS, Don Sneider was preceded in death by his siblings
6767 2 and brothers-in-law, Charlene (Ben) Hertz and Velda (Norman)
6868 3 Garfinkel; and
6969 4 WHEREAS, Don Sneider was the husband of Marilyn for 64
7070 5 years; the father of Susan (Michael) Shalem, Laurie (Steven
7171 6 Yoder) Mendelson, and Kim (Andrew) Bauman; and the grandfather
7272 7 of eight; therefore, be it
7373 8 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
7474 9 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7575 10 Don Sneider and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
