2 WHEREAS, Starved Rock State Park holds significant
3 historical and cultural importance to the residents of the
4 State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, The name Starved Rock has become synonymous with
6 the natural beauty and heritage of our State for over 100
7 years, attracting visitors from across the nation and
8 contributing to the local economy; and
9 WHEREAS, Recent discussions regarding the potential
10 renaming of Starved Rock State Park have raised concerns among
11 residents and local businesses regarding the impact such a
12 change could have on local communities' identities and the
13 tourism industry; and
14 WHEREAS, It is crucial for the General Assembly to
15 reaffirm its support for maintaining the name Starved Rock
16 State Park and emphasize its significance to the local
17 community's brand identity and cultural heritage; therefore,
18 be it
19 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
20 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we express our
21 unwavering support for the name Starved Rock State Park, and

8 RESOLVED, That we encourage open dialogue and
9 collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including Tribal
10 Nations and Indigenous communities, to address concerns and
11 explore ways to honor the park's heritage while respecting
12 diverse perspectives; and be it further
