3	3	1 SENATE RESOLUTION
4	4	2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
5	5	3 to learn of the death of Duane John Davis of Pekin, who passed
6	6	4 away on November 26, 2024; and
7	7	5 WHEREAS, John Davis was born to Willard W. and Katherine
8	8	6 L. (Farmer) Davis in Jefferson City, Missouri on May 16, 1941;
9	9	7 he served in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany
10	10	8 and through which he learned photography and film development;
11	11	9 he achieved three associate degrees in multiple fields of
12	12	10 study through Illinois Central College; he was previously
13	13	11 married to Vivienne A. "Toni" (Major) Nelson and then Jill
14	14	12 (Scheidler) Davis, and they survive; and
15	15	13 WHEREAS, John Davis worked as a truck driver for Starr
16	16	14 Transport, retiring in 2013; prior to that, he worked as an
17	17	15 equipment repair technician at UARCO for many years; he also
18	18	16 formerly served as a police officer for the Pekin Police
19	19	17 Department and as police chief of the Delavan Police
20	20	18 Department; and
21	21	19 WHEREAS, John Davis pursued a multitude of hobbies
22	22	20 throughout the years, including collecting matchbooks,
23	23	21 photography and film developing, building model railroads,
24	24	22 reading and completing crossword puzzles, and video gaming;

33	33	1 due to his sense of adventure and love for the outdoors, he
34	34	2 became a private pilot and enjoyed sharpening his target
35	35	3 shooting skills; and
36	36	4 WHEREAS, John Davis was a very family-oriented man known
37	37	5 as a bit of homebody later in life who showed kindness through
38	38	6 his love of pets and donating to charities; he was a big fan of
39	39	7 the Chicago Bears and always enjoyed a fresh baked loaf of
40	40	8 bread; and
41	41	9 WHEREAS, John Davis was preceded in death by his parents;
42	42	10 his brother, William Davis; and his sister, Daphene Sweeney;
43	43	11 and
44	44	12 WHEREAS, John Davis is survived by his daughter, Renee
45	45	13 (Curt) Afdahl; his granddaughters, Dreeyan (Ryan) Hughes and
46	46	14 Jorheene Spradlin; his great-granddaughter, Brynleigh Hughes;
47	47	15 his siblings, Walter J. (Sally) Davis and Shirley H. (Bob)
48	48	16 Hayes; his stepchildren, Tara, Tim, and Tom; and several
49	49	17 nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
50	50	18 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
51	51	19 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
52	52	20 Duane John Davis and extend our sincere condolences to his
53	53	21 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
54	54	22 further
