10 | 10 | | 8 WHEREAS, The current conditions on these roadways make it |
---|
11 | 11 | | 9 increasingly unsafe for residents to access their properties, |
---|
12 | 12 | | 10 for families with young children to let their children play |
---|
13 | 13 | | 11 outside, for motorists to safely travel through and within |
---|
14 | 14 | | 12 central Lake County, for bicyclists, pedestrians, and |
---|
15 | 15 | | 13 equestrians to safely cross Casey Road at Lake County's |
---|
16 | 16 | | 14 regional trail system's designated crossing on Casey Road, and |
---|
17 | 17 | | 15 for wildlife to safely cross Casey Road; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | 16 WHEREAS, Data from the Lake County Sheriff's Office |
---|
19 | 19 | | 17 documents 28 vehicular crashes at the corner of Casey and |
---|
20 | 20 | | 18 Almond Roads in the past 10 years, with people injured in at |
---|
21 | 21 | | 19 least 10 of those crashes; and |

22 | 22 | | 20 WHEREAS, Data from the Lake County Sheriff's Office |

40 | 40 | | 8 WHEREAS, An alarming level of vehicle crashes, injuries, |
---|
41 | 41 | | 9 and wildlife collisions have made it clear that action must be |
---|
42 | 42 | | 10 taken at this time with no delay; and |
---|
43 | 43 | | 11 WHEREAS, Numerous organizations, units of government, and |
---|
44 | 44 | | 12 residents have met with local officials on multiple occasions |
---|
45 | 45 | | 13 to find solutions to this issue, and letters have been sent to |
---|
46 | 46 | | 14 IDOT alerting them of these concerns and requesting that they |
---|
47 | 47 | | 15 collaborate with the Lake County Division of Transportation |
---|
48 | 48 | | 16 and township officials to address the public safety and |
---|
49 | 49 | | 17 environmental concerns surrounding these dangerous roadways; |
---|

51 | 51 | | 19 WHEREAS, Traffic calming measures are called for in the |

52 | 52 | | 20 Liberty Prairie Reserve Master Plan of 2013, which was created |

54 | 54 | | 22 the Lake County Forest Preserve District and Libertyville |

72 | 72 | | 8 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL |

73 | 73 | | 9 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge the Illinois |

74 | 74 | | 10 Department of Transportation (IDOT) to take immediate action |
---|
75 | 75 | | 11 and work with stakeholders to identify and implement a |

76 | 76 | | 12 solution that will reduce the speed and amount of traffic and |
---|
77 | 77 | | 13 potential for additional fatal accidents on Casey and Almond |
---|
