44 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
55 3 to learn of the death of Meghan Lynn Harmon of Divernon,
66 4 formerly of Litchfield, who passed away on January 26, 2025;
77 5 and
88 6 WHEREAS, Meghan Harmon was born in Springfield to Robert
99 7 Joseph and Beth (Hermsmeyer) Harmon on December 22, 1983; she
1010 8 graduated from Litchfield High School in 2002 and earned
1111 9 several degrees, including an Associate Degree in Secondary
1212 10 Education from Lincoln Land Community College in 2004, a
1313 11 Bachelor of Arts in English in 2006 and a Master of Arts in
1414 12 English in 2008, both from the University of Illinois
1515 13 Springfield, and a Master of Science in Library and
1616 14 Information Science in 2012 from the University of Illinois
1717 15 Urbana-Champaign; she married Greg Bishop in Springfield on
1818 16 September 17, 2015; and
1919 17 WHEREAS, Meghan Harmon taught young adults English and
2020 18 humanities as an adjunct professor at Lincoln Land Community
2121 19 College; she then served as the local history and genealogy
2222 20 reference librarian at the Chatham Area Public Library
2323 21 District before taking the position of reference librarian at
2424 22 the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, where she
2525 23 earned the nickname "Megstar"; she then worked for the

3434 1 Illinois Secretary of State at the Illinois State Library as a
3535 2 library program specialist; and
3636 3 WHEREAS, Meghan Harmon had a passion for books, and she
3737 4 conducted professional presentations about rare manuscripts
3838 5 and how the public can access a wealth of information from
3939 6 their local and state libraries; she was involved in the
4040 7 Friends of the Chatham Area Public Library, volunteering and
4141 8 performing in a decade's worth of murder mystery fundraisers;
4242 9 she also enjoyed bonding with her fellow honors students as
4343 10 part of the International College Honor Society Phi Theta
4444 11 Kappa; and
4545 12 WHEREAS, Meghan Harmon enjoyed traveling with her husband;
4646 13 they made four trips to Iceland, hiked 10 miles of the Alaska
4747 14 wilderness, toured many of the national parks in the
4848 15 southwest, and explored some of nature's most amazing caves;
4949 16 they also enjoyed concerts, dinners, game nights with close
5050 17 friends, and holidays with family; when she was not busy
5151 18 training for a foot race, kayaking with her husband, or taking
5252 19 in arts and culture, she enjoyed home renovation projects; and
5353 20 WHEREAS, Meghan Harmon was preceded in death by her
5454 21 maternal grandparents, Carl and Joyce (Satterlee) Hermsmeyer,
5555 22 and paternal grandfather, William Harmon; and

6666 1 WHEREAS, Meghan Harmon is survived by her husband, Greg;
6767 2 her parents; her brother, Kyle R. Harmon; her paternal
6868 3 grandmother, Margaret Harmon; her four-legged daughter figure,
6969 4 Pause the Cat; the Honors Girls, Biz, Adrienne, Tiffer, and
7070 5 Meesa; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and
7171 6 nephews; therefore, be it
7272 7 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
7373 8 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7474 9 Meghan Lynn Harmon and extend our sincere condolences to her
