44 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
55 3 to learn of the death of Joan Cavaness (Graves) Edwards of
66 4 Anna, who passed away on December 20, 2024; and
77 5 WHEREAS, Joan Edwards was born to Joe M. and Lena Mae
88 6 (Cavaness) Graves in Mounds on September 3, 1929; she was a
99 7 resident of Southern Illinois for all of her life, moving to
1010 8 Anna when she was two years old; and
1111 9 WHEREAS, Joan Edwards worked as an licensed practical
1212 10 nurse (LPN) administrator at Choate Mental Health as well as a
1313 11 dietary and purchasing agent for Head Start; and
1414 12 WHEREAS, Joan Edwards was a community servant of the
1515 13 highest caliber and always an outspoken advocate for Union
1616 14 County; as a hospital board member for 25 years, her proudest
1717 15 achievement was having the heliport at Union County Hospital
1818 16 named after her due to her efforts in securing it; and
1919 17 WHEREAS, Joan Edwards was a member of Mount Moriah
2020 18 Lutheran Church and several other organizations, including the
2121 19 Daughters of the Union Veterans and the Masonic Order of the
2222 20 White Shrine of Jerusalem, where she held the honor of Past
2323 21 Worthy High Priestess; she was also a Kentucky Colonel of the

3232 1 Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, a commission of
3333 2 distinction that can only be given by the Governor of the
3434 3 Commonwealth of Kentucky; and
3535 4 WHEREAS, Joan Edwards will be remembered as the
3636 5 "Queen-Mom" of her local Red Hat Society; and
3737 6 WHEREAS, Joan Edwards was preceded in death by her
3838 7 parents; her son, Major Louis Joe Wohlwend; her granddaughter,
3939 8 Jackie Edwards; and one great-grandson; and
4040 9 WHEREAS, Joan Edwards is survived by her sons, Quinn
4141 10 Edwards and Jason Edwards; her daughters-in-law, Holly
4242 11 Wohlwend and Katie Edwards; her stepdaughter, Mary Lenigk;
4343 12 five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; therefore,

4545 14 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
4646 15 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
4747 16 Joan Cavaness (Graves) Edwards and extend our sincere
4848 17 condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
4949 18 her; and be it further
