44 2 WHEREAS, Public libraries serve as essential community
55 3 institutions that provide access to information, education,
66 4 and cultural resources to all residents; and
77 5 WHEREAS, The governance and oversight of public libraries
88 6 is entrusted to library trustees who play a critical role in
99 7 ensuring that libraries operate efficiently, equitably, and in
1010 8 the best interests of the public; and
1111 9 WHEREAS, Library trustees must navigate complex legal,
1212 10 financial, and policy matters, including issues of
1313 11 intellectual freedom, budgeting, and community engagement; and
1414 12 WHEREAS, The Office of the Illinois Secretary of State
1515 13 provides training and educational resources for library
1616 14 trustees to enhance their knowledge of their responsibilities
1717 15 and the best practices in library governance; and
1818 16 WHEREAS, Continuing education and training for library
1919 17 trustees is vital to maintaining strong and well-functioning
2020 18 libraries that serve the diverse needs of Illinois residents;

3131 1 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge all public
3232 2 library trustees to participate in ongoing training programs
3333 3 provided by the Illinois Secretary of State to strengthen

3636 6 RESOLVED, That we encourage the Illinois Secretary of
3737 7 State to expand and enhance library trustee training
3838 8 opportunities, ensuring that all library board members have
3939 9 access to comprehensive education on governance, ethics, and
