SR0120LRB104 12237 LAW 22344 r SR0120 LRB104 12237 LAW 22344 r SR0120 LRB104 12237 LAW 22344 r 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened 3 to learn of the death of Dr. Jose "Joe" Austriaco of Park 4 Ridge, formerly of Lombard and Oak Brook, who passed away on 5 January 29, 2025; and 6 WHEREAS, Dr. Austriaco, the son of Cesar and Lucia 7 Dumaguit Austriaco, was born in Manila, Philippines on 8 December 8, 1934; and 9 WHEREAS, Dr. Austriaco immigrated to the United States at 10 the age of 34 in April 1969; while studying for his Educational 11 Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) exam, he 12 worked as an x-ray technician to earn a living, in preparation 13 for his wife, Lina, and their children to arrive in November; 14 upon passing the exam, he began practicing medicine in 1973, 15 and having saved enough money, he and Lina moved their family 16 to Oak Brook; he continued practicing family medicine in 17 Maywood and Chicago until 2000, and he served as staff at St. 18 Anthony Hospital; and 19 WHEREAS, Dr. Austriaco was very involved in many Filipino 20 organizations, including the Philippines Medical Association 21 of Chicago (PMAC), the Philippines National Basketball 22 Association of America (PNBAA), and the Chicago Philippines SR0120 LRB104 12237 LAW 22344 r SR0120- 2 -LRB104 12237 LAW 22344 r SR0120 - 2 - LRB104 12237 LAW 22344 r SR0120 - 2 - LRB104 12237 LAW 22344 r 1 Lions Club; he was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed playing 2 tennis, bowling, and playing basketball; and 3 WHEREAS, Dr. Austriaco was the husband and partner of the 4 late Carolina "Lina" Austriaco; the father of Jerome (Aurora) 5 Austriaco, Jocelyn (Philip) Mesina, and Jonathan (Sherry) 6 Austriaco; and the grandfather of Danielle, Isabelle, 7 Elisabeth, Anastacia (Dylan) Duncan, Joshua, Jessica, and 8 Jonathan; therefore, be it 9 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL 10 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 11 Dr. Jose "Joe" Austriaco and extend our sincere condolences to 12 his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it 13 further 14 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 15 presented to the family of Dr. Austriaco as an expression of 16 our deepest sympathy.
