44 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
55 3 to learn of the death of Deanna "Dee" Dean Funk, who passed
66 4 away on January 25, 2025; and
77 5 WHEREAS, Deanna Funk was born to John Lewis Dean and Faye
88 6 Jenny Winslow Dean in Akron, Ohio on March 21, 1939; she
99 7 received her Bachelor of Arts in Speech Pathology from
1010 8 Northwestern University in 1961; she married Donald Hay Funk,
1111 9 and they eventually moved to Springfield; and
1212 10 WHEREAS, Deanna Funk was a devoted housewife and mother of
1313 11 two who opened her own art business, specializing in
1414 12 needlepoint, embroidery, fabric dyeing, and various other
1515 13 artistic techniques; she traveled to showcase her work,
1616 14 passionately sharing her techniques and insights with others,
1717 15 always eager to inspire those who wanted to learn; and
1818 16 WHEREAS, Deanna Funk was a member of the Westminster
1919 17 Presbyterian Church; she was also a member of the Junior
2020 18 League, the Anti-Rust Club, Questers, the Abraham Lincoln
2121 19 Association, and the Embroiders Guild of America; she was a
2222 20 longstanding member of the Springfield Art Association, where
2323 21 she dedicated her time to volunteering due to being driven by
2424 22 her passion for artwork and her desire to inspire others; and

3333 1 WHEREAS, Deanna Funk considered being a grandmother her
3434 2 greatest accomplishment, and she was affectionately known as
3535 3 "Nana"; she always made it a priority to be there for her
3636 4 family; and
3737 5 WHEREAS, Deanna Funk had many passion projects and hobbies
3838 6 that she taught and passed down to her grandchildren,
3939 7 including art and genealogy; and
4040 8 WHEREAS, Deanna Funk was preceded in death by her parents;
4141 9 her husband of 61 years, Donald; and her brother, John
4242 10 Franklin Dean; and
4343 11 WHEREAS, Deanna Funk is survived by her children, Anne
4444 12 Funk and Donald (Layna) Funk; two granddaughters; her niece
4545 13 and nephew, Michelle (Michael Borenstein) and John Dean; her
4646 14 sister-in-law, Jeanne Dean; and many grandnieces and
4747 15 grandnephews; therefore, be it
4848 16 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
4949 17 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
5050 18 Deanna "Dee" Dean Funk and extend our sincere condolences to
5151 19 her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
