1  SENATE RESOLUTION
2  WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3  to learn of the death of Margaret Ann Timoney of Springfield,
4  who passed away on March 8, 2025; and
5  WHEREAS, Margaret Timoney was born in Springfield to
6  Harold and Mary Madelyn Hannah Carter on March 2, 1936; she
7  attended St. Joseph Grade School, graduated from Ursuline
8  Academy in 1954, and attended Springfield College; she married
9  Lawrence "Larry" Timoney in Springfield on July 28, 1956; and
10  WHEREAS, Margaret Timoney retired from the City of
11  Springfield; and
12  WHEREAS, Margaret Timoney was a member of St. Joseph's
13  Church, and her faith was very important to her; she attended
14  daily mass and was active in her parish community; she was
15  always putting the needs of others before her own; she
16  actively volunteered at Ursuline Academy, St. Joseph School
17  and Church, Griffin High School, Sacred Heart Griffin High
18  School, St. John's Breadline, St. Joseph's Home, Daily Bread,
19  Meals on Wheels, and the Senior Citizens Center; and
20  WHEREAS, Margaret Timoney loved working with numbers;
21  after retiring, she took college accounting and tax prep

1  classes; she enjoyed helping family, friends, and others at
2  the senior center with completing their taxes; she also
3  counted money at St. Joseph's Church on a weekly basis; and
4  WHEREAS, Margaret Timoney enjoyed collecting nativity sets
5  and holy family figurines; she regularly gifted porcelain
6  nativity sets, handmade by her Aunt Dorothy and Uncle Charlie
7  Carter, for wedding presents; she enjoyed baking and was known
8  for sharing her delicious gooey butter cake at every family,
9  school, church, and sporting event; she also enjoyed traveling
10  with her family and friends and watching and attending
11  sporting events; she was a competitive bowler and relished her
12  beloved Chicago Cubs finally winning the World Series in 2016;
13  and
14  WHEREAS, Margaret Timoney was extremely proud of her Irish
15  heritage and was honored to have been chosen as Springfield's
16  Irishwoman of the Year by the Sons & Daughters of Erin in 2016;
17  and
18  WHEREAS, Margaret Timoney was preceded in death by her
19  husband, Larry; her parents; and her sisters, Catherine (Bob)
20  Byrnes and Janet (Don) Humphrey; and
21  WHEREAS, Margaret Timoney is survived by her children,
22  Paula Timoney (Emile Snijders), Kevin Timoney (Jean Bruner

1  Jachino), Marty Timoney, Laura "Mickey" (John) Dearing, Tim
2  (Cindy) Timoney, and Bridget Timoney; her grandsons, Michael
3  (Kayla) Timoney, Ryan (Laura) Timoney, Conner (Estefania)
4  Timoney, and Tyler Dearing (Rachael Cook); her
5  great-grandchildren, Margaret "Maggie" Ann, Savannah Mae,
6  Lachlan James, Remy Elizabeth, Rory Kathryn, and Hudson
7  Carter; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore,
8  be it
9  RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
10  ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11  Margaret Ann Timoney and extend our sincere condolences to her
12  family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
13  further
14  RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15  presented to the family of Margaret Timoney as an expression
16  of our deepest sympathy.
