11	11	MADAM PRESIDENT:
12	12	I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
13	13	1 A SENATE RESOLUTION memorializing Allen G.
14	14	2 Sanderson, Jr.
15	15	3 Whereas, Allen G. Sanderson, Jr., was born November 17,
16	16	4 1922, in Roanoke, Virginia, to Allen G. Sanderson, Sr., and
17	17	5 Mayce Z. Mills Sanderson;
18	18	6 Whereas, After graduating from Jefferson High School in
19	19	7 Roanoke, Allen briefly attended Virginia Tech before enlisting
20	20	8 in the United States Army Air Corps on May 18, 1942;
21	21	9 Whereas, On July 28, 1943, Allen earned his wings and
22	22	10 commissioned as a P-47 fighter pilot, later serving as a member
23	23	11 of the 64th Fighter Squadron, where he flew 118 combat
24	24	12 missions in North Africa and Europe during World War II,
25	25	13 including two missions over the beaches of Normandy on D-
26	26	14 Day in June of 1944;
27	27	15 Whereas, Upon Allen's return from the Second World War,
28	28	16 he was honorably discharged from active service and was
29	29	17 awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and three Air Medals
30	30	18 for his valorous service;

32	32	1 Whereas, Following his years of service in the Army Air
33	33	2 Corps, Allen built a 35-year career in the banking industry at
34	34	3 a number of subsidiaries of American General/One Main
35	35	4 Financial, eventually retiring as President of Thrift, Inc. in
36	36	5 1985;
37	37	6 Whereas, Allen was also deeply involved in the community
38	38	7 of Evansville, Indiana, including as head of the Evansville
39	39	8 Lender Association, commissioner of the Big Bend Boy Scout
40	40	9 District, founding member and lifetime board member emeritus
41	41	10 of the Evansville War Museum, board member of the P-47
42	42	11 Foundation, member of the Evansville Credit Bureau, member
43	43	12 of both the Scottish Rite 32nd Degree and the Hadi Shrine for
44	44	13 over 50 years, and a devoted member of the Eastminster
45	45	14 Presbyterian Church for 68 years;
46	46	15 Whereas, Allen was a dedicated leader within the city of
47	47	16 Evansville, having volunteered in teaching young Hoosiers
48	48	17 about the role Evansville played in producing the P-47, which
49	49	18 was vital to winning the war in North Africa and Europe; and
50	50	19 Whereas, Allen will be remembered by his wife of 30 years,
51	51	20 Nancy, family, and the Evansville community for his patriotism
52	52	21 and civil service, love for piloting his houseboat, "Lady Jane",
53	53	22 and a lifetime of dedication to his community, God, and
54	54	23 country: Therefore,
55	55	24 Be it resolved by the Senate of the
56	56	25 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
57	57	26 SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate memorializes Allen
58	58	27 G. Sanderson, Jr.
59	59	28 SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed
60	60	29 to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the family of Allen G.
