1111 MADAM PRESIDENT:
1212 I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
1313 1 A SENATE RESOLUTION memorializing Allen G.
1414 2 Sanderson, Jr.
1515 3 Whereas, Allen G. Sanderson, Jr., was born November 17,
1616 4 1922, in Roanoke, Virginia, to Allen G. Sanderson, Sr., and
1717 5 Mayce Z. Mills Sanderson;
1818 6 Whereas, After graduating from Jefferson High School in
1919 7 Roanoke, Allen briefly attended Virginia Tech before enlisting
2020 8 in the United States Army Air Corps on May 18, 1942;
2121 9 Whereas, On July 28, 1943, Allen earned his wings and
2222 10 commissioned as a P-47 fighter pilot, later serving as a member
2323 11 of the 64th Fighter Squadron, where he flew 118 combat
2424 12 missions in North Africa and Europe during World War II,
2525 13 including two missions over the beaches of Normandy on D-
2626 14 Day in June of 1944;
2727 15 Whereas, Upon Allen's return from the Second World War,
2828 16 he was honorably discharged from active service and was
2929 17 awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and three Air Medals
3030 18 for his valorous service;

3232 1 Whereas, Following his years of service in the Army Air
3333 2 Corps, Allen built a 35-year career in the banking industry at
3434 3 a number of subsidiaries of American General/One Main
3535 4 Financial, eventually retiring as President of Thrift, Inc. in
3636 5 1985;
3737 6 Whereas, Allen was also deeply involved in the community
3838 7 of Evansville, Indiana, including as head of the Evansville
3939 8 Lender Association, commissioner of the Big Bend Boy Scout
4040 9 District, founding member and lifetime board member emeritus
4141 10 of the Evansville War Museum, board member of the P-47
4242 11 Foundation, member of the Evansville Credit Bureau, member
4343 12 of both the Scottish Rite 32nd Degree and the Hadi Shrine for
4444 13 over 50 years, and a devoted member of the Eastminster
4545 14 Presbyterian Church for 68 years;
4646 15 Whereas, Allen was a dedicated leader within the city of
4747 16 Evansville, having volunteered in teaching young Hoosiers
4848 17 about the role Evansville played in producing the P-47, which
4949 18 was vital to winning the war in North Africa and Europe; and
5050 19 Whereas, Allen will be remembered by his wife of 30 years,
5151 20 Nancy, family, and the Evansville community for his patriotism
5252 21 and civil service, love for piloting his houseboat, "Lady Jane",
5353 22 and a lifetime of dedication to his community, God, and
5454 23 country: Therefore,
5555 24 Be it resolved by the Senate of the
5656 25 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
5757 26 SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate memorializes Allen
5858 27 G. Sanderson, Jr.
5959 28 SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed
6060 29 to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the family of Allen G.
