Indianapolis in celebration of its centennial year.

SENATE RESOLUTION ____
MADAM PRESIDENT:  
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
1 A SENATE RESOLUTION honoring the Junior League of
2 Indianapolis in celebration of its centennial year. 
3 Whereas, The Junior League of Indianapolis is an
4 organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism,
5 developing the potential of women, and improving the
6 community through the effective action and leadership of
7 trained volunteers;
8 Whereas, The Junior League of Indianapolis held its first
9 general meeting in 1922 and reincorporated in 1924; 
10 Whereas, The Junior League of Indianapolis has
11 spearheaded countless community service initiatives for
12 seventy-five years, starting with the founding of the
13 Occupational Therapy Department at Riley Hospital for
14 Children;
15 Whereas, The League has provided educational
16 programming and resources for the children of Indianapolis
17 through music, art, history, theater, healthy eating, and
18 multiple literacy programs;
19 Whereas, The League has created inclusivity for children

1 with deficits in vision, hearing, and learning, for those in the
2 juvenile justice system, and by supporting community centers
3 that provide child care, medical care, or social services; 
4 Whereas, The League has also rallied around the city of
5 Indianapolis with historical preservation projects and
6 establishing Indianapolis as a leading host city for more than
7 a dozen sporting events; 
8 Whereas, The mission of the League has evolved from its
9 inception to reflect an ever-changing society and Junior League
10 women have emerged as civic leaders meeting the needs of their
11 community through volunteerism; and
12 Whereas, The Junior League of Indianapolis has made a
13 significant social and economic impact in the Indianapolis
14 community, donating $11 million to various community
15 partners since 1922, with $4.9 million of those donations
16 occurring since 2000, through nearly 170 community projects:
17 Therefore,
18	Be it resolved by the Senate of the
19 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
20 SECTION 1. That the Indiana State Senate honors the
21 Junior League of Indianapolis in celebration of its centennial
22 year. 
23 SECTION 2. That the Secretary of the Senate is hereby
24 directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Junior
25 League of Indianapolis.
