HOUSE ENROLLED ACT No. 1557
AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning agriculture and
animals.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
SECTION 1. IC 15-11-9-1.1 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE
AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY
1, 2023]: Sec. 1.1. (a) As used in this section, "farmland" refers to
property described in IC 14-22-11-1(a)(2).
(b) The department shall:
(1) conduct an inventory of all farmland lost in Indiana from
2010 to 2022; and
(2) identify the primary cause of the reduction of farmland
under subdivision (1).
(c) The department shall issue a report to the legislative council
containing the department's findings and recommendations,
including any recommended legislation, in an electronic format
under IC 5-14-6 not later than July 1, 2024.
(d) This section expires December 1, 2024.
