2016 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION urging the Indiana
2117 2 Department of Transportation to rename the bridge over West
2218 3 300 North on State Road 25 in Carroll County as the "George
2319 4 H. Mears Memorial Bridge".
2420 5 Whereas, George H. Mears was born in 1953 in Carroll
2521 6 County, Indiana, as the first-born son to Keith Monroe Mears
2622 7 and Rozella Kerlin Mears;
2723 8 Whereas, Following graduation from Delphi Community
2824 9 High School in 1971, George attended Purdue University,
2925 10 where he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity
3026 11 and Founding Chairman of the Boilermaker National Tractor
3127 12 Pull;
3228 13 Whereas, George graduated from Purdue with a degree in
3329 14 Agricultural Mechanization and worked as a test engineer at
3430 15 the Allis Chalmers implementation factory in LaPorte and later
3531 16 as a district salesman in northern Illinois;
3632 17 Whereas, George later returned to Carroll County to raise
3733 18 cattle, corn, soybeans, and wheat with his wife of 41 years,
3834 19 Deb, and his three children on his Certified Organic farm, and
3935 20 proudly served as a board member on the Midwest Organic
4036 21 Farmers Cooperative;
4137 22 Whereas, In addition to farming, George met the needs of
4238 23 his local community through ventures including the sale of
4339 24 natural farming products, selling canned beef through George's
4440 25 Country Beef, running a custom spraying and lime-spreading

4642 1 business, as well as hauling and spreading driveway stones;
4743 2 Whereas, George was a true public servant for the local
4844 3 community, where he served as Carroll County Commissioner
4945 4 from 2004 until 2008, and later on both the Wabash River
5046 5 Heritage Corridor Commission and Carroll County Economic
5147 6 Development Corporation; and
5248 7 Whereas, George's lifelong dedication to family,
5349 8 community, and preservation is greatly realized through his
5450 9 efforts in the Hoosier state, from the Wabash Erie Canal to
5551 10 Wilson's Bridge and the Hoosier Heartland, and through his
5652 11 work on countless historical preservation projects that remain
5753 12 active around the country: Therefore,
5854 13 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly
5955 14 of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives
6056 15 concurring:
6157 16 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly urges the
6258 17 Indiana Department of Transportation to rename the bridge over
6359 18 West 300 North on State Road 25 in Carroll County as the
6460 19 "George H. Mears Memorial Bridge".
6561 20 SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is directed to
6662 21 transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Commissioner of the
6763 22 Indiana Department of Transportation.

7066 Madam President: The Senate Committee on Homeland Security
7167 and Transportation, to which was referred Senate Concurrent
7268 Resolution No. 4, has had the same under consideration and begs leave
