20	16		1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION urging the Indiana
21	17		2 Department of Transportation to rename the bridge over West
22	18		3 300 North on State Road 25 in Carroll County as the "George
23	19		4 H. Mears Memorial Bridge".
24	20		5 Whereas, George H. Mears was born in 1953 in Carroll
25	21		6 County, Indiana, as the first-born son to Keith Monroe Mears
26	22		7 and Rozella Kerlin Mears;
27	23		8 Whereas, Following graduation from Delphi Community
28	24		9 High School in 1971, George attended Purdue University,
29	25		10 where he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity
30	26		11 and Founding Chairman of the Boilermaker National Tractor
31	27		12 Pull;
32	28		13 Whereas, George graduated from Purdue with a degree in
33	29		14 Agricultural Mechanization and worked as a test engineer at
34	30		15 the Allis Chalmers implementation factory in LaPorte and later
35	31		16 as a district salesman in northern Illinois;
36	32		17 Whereas, George later returned to Carroll County to raise
37	33		18 cattle, corn, soybeans, and wheat with his wife of 41 years,
38	34		19 Deb, and his three children on his Certified Organic farm, and
39	35		20 proudly served as a board member on the Midwest Organic
40	36		21 Farmers Cooperative;
41	37		22 Whereas, In addition to farming, George met the needs of
42	38		23 his local community through ventures including the sale of
43	39		24 natural farming products, selling canned beef through George's
44	40		25 Country Beef, running a custom spraying and lime-spreading

46	42		1 business, as well as hauling and spreading driveway stones;
47	43		2 Whereas, George was a true public servant for the local
48	44		3 community, where he served as Carroll County Commissioner
49	45		4 from 2004 until 2008, and later on both the Wabash River
50	46		5 Heritage Corridor Commission and Carroll County Economic
51	47		6 Development Corporation; and
52	48		7 Whereas, George's lifelong dedication to family,
53	49		8 community, and preservation is greatly realized through his
54	50		9 efforts in the Hoosier state, from the Wabash Erie Canal to
55	51		10 Wilson's Bridge and the Hoosier Heartland, and through his
56	52		11 work on countless historical preservation projects that remain
57	53		12 active around the country: Therefore,
58	54		13 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly
59	55		14 of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives
60	56		15 concurring:
61	57		16 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly urges the
62	58		17 Indiana Department of Transportation to rename the bridge over
63	59		18 West 300 North on State Road 25 in Carroll County as the
64	60		19 "George H. Mears Memorial Bridge".
65	61		20 SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is directed to
66	62		21 transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Commissioner of the
67	63		22 Indiana Department of Transportation.

70	66		Madam President: The Senate Committee on Homeland Security
71	67		and Transportation, to which was referred Senate Concurrent
72	68		Resolution No. 4, has had the same under consideration and begs leave
73	69		to report the same back to the Senate with the recommendation that
74	70		said resolution DO PASS.
