2117 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION urging the Indiana
2218 2 Department of Transportation to rename a section of State Road
2319 3 135 in Harrison County between School Lane Northeast and
2420 4 Buffalo Trace Road the "Jacob T. McClanahan Memorial

2622 6 Whereas, Jacob T. McClanahan was born November 3,
2723 7 1997, in Corydon, Indiana, to Marty D. and Deborah Miller
2824 8 McClanahan;
2925 9 Whereas, Jacob graduated from Corydon Central High
3026 10 School in 2016 and dedicated his life to working with and
3127 11 serving the Harrison County community ever since he could
3228 12 legally drive;
3329 13 Whereas, Jacob worked as a truck driver for the Harrison
3430 14 County Highway Department and volunteered at the Ramsey
3531 15 Volunteer Fire Department, the Harrison Township Volunteer
3632 16 Fire Department, the New Middletown Volunteer Fire
3733 17 Department, and the Leavenworth Fire Department;
3834 18 Whereas, On the evening of May 16, 2022, Jacob and a
3935 19 friend were driving on Highway 135 near Palmyra, Indiana,
4036 20 when they pulled over to assist a stranded motorist who had
4137 21 run out of gas and remained partially in the roadway;
4238 22 Whereas, While Jacob worked to help direct traffic around
4339 23 the scene, the stranded driver pulled out a shotgun and fired
4440 24 towards a Palmyra Police Reserve Officer who had been
4541 25 assisting the driver, but the bullet fatally struck 24-year-old

4743 1 Jacob instead; and
4844 2 Whereas, Jacob's lifelong contributions and sacrifice to his
4945 3 hometown should be celebrated and remembered by family,
5046 4 friends, and those traveling through Harrison County for years
5147 5 to come: Therefore,
5248 6 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly
5349 7 of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives
5450 8 concurring:
5551 9 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly urges the
5652 10 Indiana Department of Transportation to rename a section of
5753 11 State Road 135 in Harrison County between School Lane
5854 12 Northeast and Buffalo Trace Road the "Jacob T. McClanahan
5955 13 Memorial Mile".
6056 14 SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed
6157 15 to transmit copies of this Resolution to the family of Jacob T.
6258 16 McClanahan and the Commissioner of the Indiana Department
6359 17 of Transportation.
