YOUNG M , read first time and referred to Committee on 2023 RC 1515/DI RC Introduced First Regular Session 123rd General Assembly (2023) SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION No. _____ 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring the Citizens' 2 Speedway Committee. 3 Whereas, The Citizens' Speedway Committee was founded 4 in 1920 as the Citizens of Indianapolis Lap Prize Committee 5 through the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, one of the 6 first cooperative efforts to promote the city; 7 Whereas, In the Committee's early years, volunteers 8 promoted the Indianapolis 500-Mile Sweepstakes Race, now 9 known as the Indianapolis 500, by handing out maps showing 10 routes to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, operating a 24/7 11 phone line to answer questions about the race, and providing 12 out-of-town guests additional assistance while visiting the city; 13 Whereas, Throughout its history, the Citizens' Speedway 14 Committee has been comprised of individual community leaders 15 in business and manufacturing who work to express their 16 appreciation of the Indianapolis 500, "The Greatest Spectacle 17 in Racing"; 18 Whereas, The Citizens' Speedway Committee's Lap Prize 19 Sponsorship program has extended to the Brickyard 400 and 20 the Global Medical Response (GMR) Grand Prix, with a 21 portion of proceeds benefitting the Indianapolis Motor 22 Speedway Museum; 23 Whereas, The Lap Prize Sponsorship program is solidified 24 as part of the unique lore of the month of May at the 25 Indianapolis Motor Speedway and provides individuals, 2023 RC 1515/DI RC 2 1 businesses, and organizations the opportunity to show civic 2 pride by being a part of the Indianapolis 500 and the GMR 3 Grand Prix; 4 Whereas, Through the sponsorship program, drivers in 5 both races receive bonuses for leading sponsored laps that help 6 support the community; and 7 Whereas, In 2020, the Citizens' Speedway Committee 8 celebrated a century of fostering the true spirit of Indianapolis 9 through its promotion and involvement in "The Greatest 10 Spectacle in Racing": Therefore, 11 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly 12 of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives 13 concurring: 14 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly honors the 15 Citizens' Speedway Committee and their efforts in helping 16 make Indianapolis the racing capital of the world. 17 SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed 18 to transmit copies of this Resolution to the members of the 19 Citizens' Speedway Committee. 2023 RC 1515/DI RC
