Tomes FUNDS AFFECTED:XGENERAL IMPACT: Local DEDICATED FEDERAL Summary of Legislation: This bill provides that a fire department may deviate from the required maximum work hours for members of the fire department only if authorized by a collective bargaining agreement, memorandum of understanding, or other similar written mutual agreement with an exclusive recognized representative of employees of the fire department. Effective Date: July 1, 2024. Explanation of State Expenditures: Explanation of State Revenues: Explanation of Local Expenditures: Local fire departments may see an increase in expenditures and workload from a new agreement on the maximum hour limit. Compensation and the maximum hour limit will depend on if the local fire department wants to increase the maximum hour limit and if it is agreed upon with the exclusive recognized representative of the employees of the fire department. Currently, the maximum hour limit is an average of 56 hours per week. The exception is an average of 63 hours per week for those fire departments using that standard on September 1, 1985.
