34 | 34 | | 4 corporation shall establish a safe school committee. The committee |
---|
35 | 35 | | 5 may be a subcommittee of the committee that develops the strategic |

36 | 36 | | 6 and continuous school improvement and achievement plan under |
---|
37 | 37 | | 7 IC 20-31-5. Each committee may include at least one (1) member who |
---|
38 | 38 | | 8 is a member of the support staff of the school or school corporation |
---|

40 | 40 | | 10 (b) Each school operated by a charter school shall establish a safe |
---|
41 | 41 | | 11 school committee. A charter school in operation on July 1, 2023, shall |

42 | 42 | | 12 comply with this subsection not later than July 1, 2024. |

43 | 43 | | 13 (c) The safe school committee shall actively participate in and assist |

44 | 44 | | 14 with the development of the school safety plan. |

46 | 46 | | 16 school's school safety specialist or specialists, and a school resource |
---|
47 | 47 | | 17 officer, if one (1) is employed by the school corporation or charter |

54 | 54 | | 6 of students, faculty, staff, and the public, including unsafe |

55 | 55 | | 7 conditions, crime prevention, school violence, bullying and |
---|
56 | 56 | | 8 cyberbullying, criminal organization activity, child abuse and |
---|
57 | 57 | | 9 child sexual abuse, mental health and behavioral health, suicide |
---|
58 | 58 | | 10 awareness and prevention, and other issues that prevent the |
---|
59 | 59 | | 11 maintenance of a safe school. |
---|
60 | 60 | | 12 (3) Addressing the professional development needs for faculty |
---|
61 | 61 | | 13 and staff to implement methods that decrease problems identified |
---|
62 | 62 | | 14 under subdivision (2). |
---|
63 | 63 | | 15 (4) Identifying and implementing methods to encourage: |
---|
64 | 64 | | 16 (A) involvement by the community, families, and students; |
---|
65 | 65 | | 17 (B) development of relationships between students and school |
---|
66 | 66 | | 18 faculty and staff; and |
---|
67 | 67 | | 19 (C) use of problem solving teams. |
---|
68 | 68 | | 20 (e) The guidelines developed under subsection (d) must include age |
---|
69 | 69 | | 21 appropriate, research based information that assists school corporations |
---|
70 | 70 | | 22 or charter schools and safe school committees in: |
---|
71 | 71 | | 23 (1) developing and implementing bullying and cyberbullying |
---|
72 | 72 | | 24 prevention programs; |
---|
73 | 73 | | 25 (2) establishing investigation and reporting procedures related to |
---|
74 | 74 | | 26 bullying and cyberbullying; and |
---|
75 | 75 | | 27 (3) adopting discipline rules that comply with IC 20-33-8-13.5. |

76 | 76 | | 28 (f) In addition to developing guidelines under subsection (d), the |
---|
77 | 77 | | 29 department of education shall establish categories of types of bullying |
---|
78 | 78 | | 30 incidents to allow school corporations to use the categories in making |
---|
79 | 79 | | 31 reports under IC 20-20-8-8 and IC 20-34-6-1. |

80 | 80 | | 32 (g) The materials and guidelines provided under subsection (d) must |

81 | 81 | | 33 include the model educational materials and model response policies |

282 | 282 | | 19 that is based upon a set minimum amount increased by an additional |
---|

---|
284 | 284 | | 21 program must align with the strategic and continuous school |
---|
285 | 285 | | 22 improvement and achievement plans under IC 20-31-5-4 for the |
---|
286 | 286 | | 23 schools within the school corporation. A school that receives a grant |
---|
287 | 287 | | 24 under this subsection shall submit an annual report to the department |
---|
288 | 288 | | 25 that includes the following: |

289 | 289 | | 26 (1) The programs for which the grant is used. |

290 | 290 | | 27 (2) The results of the programs for which the grant is used, |
---|
