32	32	A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning
33	33	public safety.
34	34	Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
35	35	1 SECTION 1. IC 36-5-7-6.5 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE
36	36	2 AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY
37	37	3 1, 2024]: Sec. 6.5. (a) The appointment of a reserve deputy town
38	38	4 marshal is subject to the requirements set forth in IC 36-8-3-20.
39	39	5 (b) A reserve deputy town marshal may not act in an official
40	40	6 capacity as a reserve deputy town marshal unless the reserve
41	41	7 deputy town marshal is wearing a distinctive uniform and
42	42	8 identification authorized by the town marshal.
43	43	9 (c) If the reserve deputy town marshal's official duties include
44	44	10 patrolling with the use of a motor vehicle, the motor vehicle used
45	45	11 as part of the reserve deputy town marshal's official duties must:
46	46	12 (1) be marked as a police vehicle; and
47	47	13 (2) include identification of the particular town being served
48	48	14 by the reserve deputy town marshal;
49	49	15 in a manner that will clearly show to casual observations that the
50	50	16 motor vehicle is being used as a police vehicle of the particular
51	51	17 town served by the reserve deputy town marshal.

53	53	1 (d) The town council shall determine the placement and the size
54	54	2 of the identification of the particular town on a motor vehicle
55	55	3 described in subsection (c)(2).
