2626 A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning
2727 professions and occupations.
2828 Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
2929 1 SECTION 1. IC 25-28.5-1-12, AS AMENDED BY P.L.194-2005,
3030 2 SECTION 69, IS AMENDED TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE
3131 3 JULY 1, 2024]: Sec. 12. (a) Except as otherwise provided in this
3232 4 chapter, a natural person over the age of eighteen (18) years who
3333 5 resides in Indiana and any corporation which satisfies the further
3434 6 requirements of this chapter may be licensed by the commission as a
3535 7 plumbing contractor. Except as otherwise provided by this chapter, a
3636 8 natural person over the age of eighteen (18) years may be licensed by
3737 9 the commission as journeyman plumber.
3838 10 (b) A person who desires to be licensed as a plumbing contractor or
3939 11 journeyman plumber is eligible for such a license upon the successful
4040 12 taking of the examination provided in section 15 of this chapter.
4141 13 (c) This subsection does not apply to an applicant who is
4242 14 qualified to take an examination under subsection (d). To qualify for
4343 15 a journeyman plumber examination under subsection (b), an applicant
4444 16 who is an Indiana resident must provide evidence that the applicant has
4545 17 completed at least four (4) years in an apprenticeship program

4747 1 approved by the commission or present to the commission a notarized
4848 2 statement providing evidence that the applicant has at least four (4)
4949 3 years of experience in the plumbing trade in employment as set forth
5050 4 in section 32(2), 32(6), or 32(7) of this chapter. To qualify for a
5151 5 plumbing contractor license examination under subsection (b), an
5252 6 applicant who is an Indiana resident must provide evidence that the
5353 7 applicant has completed at least four (4) years in an apprenticeship
5454 8 program approved by the commission or present to the commission a
5555 9 notarized statement providing evidence that the applicant has at least
5656 10 four (4) years of experience in the plumbing trade in employment as set
5757 11 forth in section 32(2), 32(6), or 32(7) of this chapter, or has worked in
5858 12 a plumbing business under the direction of a licensed plumbing
5959 13 contractor for at least four (4) years.
6060 14 (d) An applicant who:
6161 15 (1) is:
6262 16 (A) an architect registered under IC 25-4; or
6363 17 (B) a professional engineer registered under IC 25-31; and
6464 18 (2) has worked in the applicant's profession for at least six (6)
6565 19 years;
6666 20 may qualify to take an examination under subsection (b).
6767 21 (d) (e) An applicant who is not an Indiana resident may qualify to
6868 22 take an examination under subsection (b) in the following manner:
6969 23 (1) If the applicant holds a license in a state that does not have a
7070 24 reciprocity agreement with Indiana, the applicant must present the
7171 25 license to the commission to be eligible to take the examination.
7272 26 (2) If the applicant resides in a state that does not have licensing
7373 27 requirements, the applicant before taking the examination must
7474 28 meet the appropriate requirements of subsection (b).
7575 29 (e) (f) If the applicant holds a license in a state that has a reciprocity
7676 30 agreement with Indiana, the appropriate license shall be issued
7777 31 automatically.
