26	26	A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning
27	27	professions and occupations.
28	28	Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
29	29	1 SECTION 1. IC 25-28.5-1-12, AS AMENDED BY P.L.194-2005,
30	30	2 SECTION 69, IS AMENDED TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE
31	31	3 JULY 1, 2024]: Sec. 12. (a) Except as otherwise provided in this
32	32	4 chapter, a natural person over the age of eighteen (18) years who
33	33	5 resides in Indiana and any corporation which satisfies the further
34	34	6 requirements of this chapter may be licensed by the commission as a
35	35	7 plumbing contractor. Except as otherwise provided by this chapter, a
36	36	8 natural person over the age of eighteen (18) years may be licensed by
37	37	9 the commission as journeyman plumber.
38	38	10 (b) A person who desires to be licensed as a plumbing contractor or
39	39	11 journeyman plumber is eligible for such a license upon the successful
40	40	12 taking of the examination provided in section 15 of this chapter.
41	41	13 (c) This subsection does not apply to an applicant who is
42	42	14 qualified to take an examination under subsection (d). To qualify for
43	43	15 a journeyman plumber examination under subsection (b), an applicant
44	44	16 who is an Indiana resident must provide evidence that the applicant has
45	45	17 completed at least four (4) years in an apprenticeship program

47	47	1 approved by the commission or present to the commission a notarized
48	48	2 statement providing evidence that the applicant has at least four (4)
49	49	3 years of experience in the plumbing trade in employment as set forth
50	50	4 in section 32(2), 32(6), or 32(7) of this chapter. To qualify for a
51	51	5 plumbing contractor license examination under subsection (b), an
52	52	6 applicant who is an Indiana resident must provide evidence that the
53	53	7 applicant has completed at least four (4) years in an apprenticeship
54	54	8 program approved by the commission or present to the commission a
55	55	9 notarized statement providing evidence that the applicant has at least
56	56	10 four (4) years of experience in the plumbing trade in employment as set
57	57	11 forth in section 32(2), 32(6), or 32(7) of this chapter, or has worked in
58	58	12 a plumbing business under the direction of a licensed plumbing
59	59	13 contractor for at least four (4) years.
60	60	14 (d) An applicant who:
61	61	15 (1) is:
62	62	16 (A) an architect registered under IC 25-4; or
63	63	17 (B) a professional engineer registered under IC 25-31; and
64	64	18 (2) has worked in the applicant's profession for at least six (6)
65	65	19 years;
66	66	20 may qualify to take an examination under subsection (b).
67	67	21 (d) (e) An applicant who is not an Indiana resident may qualify to
68	68	22 take an examination under subsection (b) in the following manner:
69	69	23 (1) If the applicant holds a license in a state that does not have a
70	70	24 reciprocity agreement with Indiana, the applicant must present the
71	71	25 license to the commission to be eligible to take the examination.
72	72	26 (2) If the applicant resides in a state that does not have licensing
73	73	27 requirements, the applicant before taking the examination must
74	74	28 meet the appropriate requirements of subsection (b).
75	75	29 (e) (f) If the applicant holds a license in a state that has a reciprocity
76	76	30 agreement with Indiana, the appropriate license shall be issued
77	77	31 automatically.
