A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning
property.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
1 SECTION 1. IC 32-31-5-8 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE
2 AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY
3 1, 2024]: Sec. 8. (a) As used in this section, "declaw" means to
4 perform, procure, or arrange for any procedure, including an
5 onychectomy, tendonectomy, or phalangectomy, to remove or
6 prevent the normal function of a cat's claw or claws.
7 (b) A rental agreement may not require a tenant to declaw a cat
8 as a condition of the rental agreement.
