DIGEST OF INTRODUCED BILL

Synopsis: Vehicle etching kits for catalytic converters. Requires a new
motor vehicle dealer to: (1) stock vehicle etching kits that are capable
of etching a serial number onto the catalytic converter of a new motor
vehicle; and (2) offer a vehicle etching kit to the purchaser of a new
motor vehicle at a cost that is not more than the cost of the vehicle
etching kit to the new motor vehicle dealer.
Effective: July 1, 2024.

A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning
motor vehicles.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
1 SECTION 1. IC 9-32-19 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE AS
2 A NEW CHAPTER TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY
3 1, 2024]:
4 Chapter 19. Vehicle Etching Kits
5 Sec. 1. (a) A new motor vehicle dealer must stock vehicle etching
6 kits that are capable of etching a traceable serial number that can
7 be:
8 (1) clearly seen; and
9 (2) easily linked to a motor vehicle;
10 onto the catalytic converter of a new motor vehicle.
11 (b) A new motor vehicle dealer must offer a vehicle etching kit
12 described in subsection (a) to the purchaser of a new motor vehicle.
13 A vehicle etching kit must be offered to the purchaser at a cost that
14 is not more than the cost of the vehicle etching kit to the new motor
15 vehicle dealer.
