34 | 34 | | 5 Sec. 1. (a) For property taxes first due and payable in 2024, and |
---|
35 | 35 | | 6 for property taxes first due and payable in each calendar year |
---|
36 | 36 | | 7 thereafter, an individual who is entitled to a standard deduction |
---|
37 | 37 | | 8 from the assessed value of property under IC 6-1.1-12-37 is also |
---|
38 | 38 | | 9 entitled to a supplemental homestead credit against the individual's |
---|
39 | 39 | | 10 property tax liability for the assessed value of the homestead to |
---|
40 | 40 | | 11 which the standard deduction applies after the application of the |

41 | 41 | | 12 standard deduction and any other deduction, exemption, or credit |

42 | 42 | | 13 for which the individual is eligible under IC 6-1.1. |

45 | 45 | | 16 Sec. 2. The amount of the supplemental homestead credit to |

49 | 49 | | 2 Sec. 3. Before April 1, 2024, and each April 1 thereafter, the |

50 | 50 | | 3 county auditor shall determine each individual in the county who |

51 | 51 | | 4 is entitled to the supplemental homestead credit under this chapter. |

52 | 52 | | 5 Sec. 4. The county auditor shall determine the: |
---|
53 | 53 | | 6 (1) number of individuals identified under section 3 of this |
---|
54 | 54 | | 7 chapter; and |
---|
55 | 55 | | 8 (2) total amount of supplemental homestead credits allowed |
---|
56 | 56 | | 9 in the county; |
---|
57 | 57 | | 10 for property taxes first due and payable in the particular calendar |
---|
58 | 58 | | 11 year. |
---|
59 | 59 | | 12 Sec. 5. The county auditor shall certify to the department of |
---|
60 | 60 | | 13 local government finance and the state comptroller the total |
---|
61 | 61 | | 14 amount of supplemental homestead credits allowed in the county |
---|
62 | 62 | | 15 for the calendar year in a manner prescribed by the department of |
---|
63 | 63 | | 16 local government finance. |
---|
64 | 64 | | 17 Sec. 6. The state comptroller shall issue a warrant to the |
---|
65 | 65 | | 18 treasurer of state ordering the distribution from the state general |
---|
66 | 66 | | 19 fund to the county treasurer of each county an amount equal to the |
---|
67 | 67 | | 20 total amount of supplemental homestead credits for the county. |
---|
68 | 68 | | 21 Sec. 7. The county auditor shall apply the supplemental |
---|
69 | 69 | | 22 homestead credit equally to each installment of property taxes that |
---|
70 | 70 | | 23 each eligible individual pays for the homestead property. |
---|
71 | 71 | | 24 Sec. 8. There is appropriated from the state general fund a |
---|
72 | 72 | | 25 sufficient amount in each state fiscal year to carry out the |
---|
73 | 73 | | 26 provisions of this chapter. |
