105 | 105 | | 16 Sec. 4. (a) Not later than October 1, 2024, the applicable |

106 | 106 | | 17 appointing authorities shall appoint members to the council. |

107 | 107 | | 18 (b) The initial appointments shall begin not later than January |

108 | 108 | | 19 1, 2025, and the initial terms of the members initially appointed |

109 | 109 | | 20 expire June 30, 2027. |

110 | 110 | | 21 (c) After the initial appointments, each member shall serve a |

111 | 111 | | 22 two (2) year term ending June 30 of the appropriate odd-numbered |
---|

113 | 113 | | 24 (d) Members of the council may be reappointed to successive |

114 | 114 | | 25 terms. |

115 | 115 | | 26 Sec. 5. The members of the council shall annually elect one (1) |

116 | 116 | | 27 chair and one (1) vice chair. |

117 | 117 | | 28 Sec. 6. (a) If a vacancy occurs on the council, the appointing |

118 | 118 | | 29 authority that appointed the member whose position is vacant shall |
---|
119 | 119 | | 30 appoint an individual to fill the vacancy. |

120 | 120 | | 31 (b) An individual appointed to fill a vacancy must have the |
---|
121 | 121 | | 32 qualifications that a member appointed by the appointing |
---|
122 | 122 | | 33 authority must have. |

123 | 123 | | 34 (c) An individual appointed to fill a vacancy serves for the |
---|
124 | 124 | | 35 remainder of the term of the member the individual is appointed |

125 | 125 | | 36 to succeed. |

126 | 126 | | 37 Sec. 7. The council shall meet: |

127 | 127 | | 38 (1) at least quarterly; and |

128 | 128 | | 39 (2) upon the call of the chair. |

129 | 129 | | 40 Sec. 8. Ten (10) members of the council constitute a quorum. |

130 | 130 | | 41 The affirmative votes of a majority of the members appointed to |

134 | 134 | | 2 Sec. 9. The office of the secretary shall staff the council. |

135 | 135 | | 3 Sec. 10. A member of the council is not entitled to a per diem. |

136 | 136 | | 4 However, a member of the council is entitled to receive the |

137 | 137 | | 5 reimbursement for traveling expenses as provided under |
---|
138 | 138 | | 6 IC 4-13-1-4 and other expenses actually incurred in connection |
---|
139 | 139 | | 7 with the member's duties as provided in the state polices and |
---|
140 | 140 | | 8 procedures established by the Indiana department of |
---|
141 | 141 | | 9 administration and approved by the budget agency. |
---|
142 | 142 | | 10 Sec. 11. The council shall do the following: |
---|
143 | 143 | | 11 (1) Oversee the development and implementation of eating |
---|
144 | 144 | | 12 disorder awareness, education, and prevention programs. |
---|
145 | 145 | | 13 (2) Identify strategies to improve access to adequate diagnosis |
---|
146 | 146 | | 14 and treatment services for individuals with eating disorders. |
---|
147 | 147 | | 15 (3) Assist the office of the secretary in identifying research |
---|
148 | 148 | | 16 projects concerning eating disorders. |
---|
149 | 149 | | 17 (4) Work with the office of the secretary and other |
---|
150 | 150 | | 18 appropriate entities to routinely examine existing: |
---|
151 | 151 | | 19 (A) surveillance systems; |
---|
152 | 152 | | 20 (B) data collection systems; and |
---|
153 | 153 | | 21 (C) administrative data bases; |
---|
154 | 154 | | 22 to determine the best strategies for implementing evidence |
---|
155 | 155 | | 23 based eating disorder measures that provide data for |
---|
156 | 156 | | 24 program and policy planning. |
---|
157 | 157 | | 25 (5) Collaborate and coordinate on data research projects with |
---|
158 | 158 | | 26 the office of the secretary and other appropriate entities. |
---|
159 | 159 | | 27 (6) Apply for grants from the federal government, private |
---|
160 | 160 | | 28 foundations, or other sources that may be available for |
---|
161 | 161 | | 29 programs related to eating disorders. |
---|
162 | 162 | | 30 (7) Make legislative or regulatory recommendations |
---|
163 | 163 | | 31 concerning eating disorders as appropriate. |
---|
164 | 164 | | 32 (8) Not later than December 1 each year, prepare and submit |
---|
165 | 165 | | 33 a report summarizing the council's activities, findings, and |
---|
166 | 166 | | 34 recommendations to the: |

167 | 167 | | 35 (A) legislative council in an electronic format under |
---|
168 | 168 | | 36 IC 5-14-6; and |
---|
169 | 169 | | 37 (B) governor. |
