1 A HOUSE RESOLUTION congratulating R. Louie
2 Gonzalez on his retirement.
3 Whereas, R. Louie Gonzalez has spent a lifetime serving the
4 community of Northwest Indiana, where he has spent most of
5 his 42-year professional career working in higher education;
6 Whereas, He graduated from Calumet College of St. Joseph,
7 earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Business
8 Administration, and received a Master's Degree in Public
9 Administration from Indiana University Northwest;
10 Whereas, His career began as a recruiter for both Calumet
11 College and Indiana University Northwest, and that work is
12 how he discovered his calling to serve in higher education;
13 Whereas, In 2023, after more than 35 years of service, Louie

1 retired from Ivy Tech Community College, the largest singly
2 accredited community college in the country;
3 Whereas, During his time at Ivy Tech, he served in many
4 roles, including as President of the East Chicago Campus for
5 10 years, and as Chancellor of the newly formed Lake County
6 Campus overseeing the Gary, East Chicago, and Crown Point
7 locations from 2017 to 2023;
8 Whereas, As Chancellor, he successfully organized the three
9 locations, Gary, East Chicago, and Crown Point, into one
10 cohesive campus operation, which now serves from 3,700 to
11 4,100 students, with 250 employees and a budget of
12 approximately $20 million;
13 Whereas, Under his leadership, Ivy Tech's Lake County
14 campuses have launched the largest welding lab out of all 19
15 Ivy Tech campuses and a new cybersecurity program through
16 Calumet College of St. Joseph;
17 Whereas, Although he has retired from Ivy Tech, Louie
18 Gonzalez continues his life of faith, service, and dedication
19 through his work in ministry and by serving on the boards of
20 the Urban League of Northwest Indiana, Community
21 Foundation of Northwest Indiana, St. Catherine Hospital,
22 Calumet College of Saint Joseph, and Valparaiso University;
23 and
24 Whereas, R. Louie Gonzalez has shown a passion for higher
25 education and ensuring that all Hoosiers have access to a
26 strong and enriching education: Therefore,
27 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the
28 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
29 SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives
30 congratulates R. Louie Gonzalez on his retirement.
31 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
32 Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to State
33 Representative Mike Andrade for distribution.
