*HR1519* Introduced Version HOUSE RESOLUTION No. ___ Introduced by: Porter, Pryor, Shackleford, Jackson, Hatcher ____________________________________ 1 A HOUSE RESOLUTION recognizing February 19, 2024, 2 as Jack and Jill of America Day at the Indiana State Capitol. 3 Whereas, Jack and Jill of America, Inc., is the premiere 4 organization dedicated to nurturing future African-American 5 leaders through cultural, educational, health, civic, and social 6 programming; 7 Whereas, Jack and Jill of America, Inc., boasts 262 chapters 8 nationwide, representing more than 50,000 family members, 9 with a significant presence in the state of Indiana; 10 Whereas, Each Jack and Jill of America chapter annually 11 plans programming activities guided by a comprehensive 12 five-point programmatic thrust, including cultural awareness, 13 educational development, health advocacy, civic engagement, 14 and social and recreational activities; 20242286 HR 1519/DI 140 2024 2 1 Whereas, Through its service projects, Jack and Jill of 2 America creates invaluable opportunities for children to 3 engage in activities that stimulate their growth and 4 development, fostering a sense of community and service 5 among youth; 6 Whereas, Jack and Jill of America actively promotes public 7 awareness and advocacy for children's interests through 8 lobbying, educational programming, dissemination of 9 materials, and organizing community and charitable events, 10 thereby advancing crucial issues such as child development, 11 quality of life, and children's rights; and 12 Whereas, The organization currently operates 262 chapters 13 across the United States with 41 of those chapters situated in 14 the Midwestern region under the exemplary leadership of 15 Regional Director Deidre Lindsey, including four chapters 16 serving the state of Indiana: Therefore, 17 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the 18 General Assembly of the State of Indiana: 19 SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives 20 recognizes February 19, 2024, as Jack and Jill of America Day 21 at the Indiana State Capitol in recognition of the significant 22 contributions made by Jack and Jill of America, Inc., to the 23 enrichment of children's lives and the betterment of 24 communities across the nation, and particularly within the state 25 of Indiana. 26 SECTION 2. That the Indiana House of Representatives 27 extends its gratitude to Jack and Jill of America, Inc., its 28 Mother members, Father's Auxiliary, and Associates, for their 29 unwavering dedication to the well-being and development of 30 children and families. 31 SECTION 3. That the Principal Clerk of the House of 32 Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to the 33 Indianapolis and Circle City chapters of Jack and Jill of 34 America, Inc., in recognition of all Indiana chapters and as a 35 token of the Indiana House of Representatives' appreciation for 36 their outstanding service and commitment to the youth of our 37 state and nation. 20242286 HR 1519/DI 140 2024
