*HR1530* Introduced Version HOUSE RESOLUTION No. ___ Introduced by: Steuerwald ____________________________________ 1 A HOUSE RESOLUTION honoring Representative Denny 2 Zent. 3 Whereas, Representative Denny Zent, who was first elected 4 to represent the citizens of House District 51 in 2012, will be 5 leaving the House Chamber for the last time at the end of the 6 2024 Legislative Session; 7 Whereas, During his time in the House of Representatives, 8 Representative Zent has served on the House Public Health 9 Committee and the House Veterans Affairs and Public Safety 10 Committee, and he served as Chair for the House Local 11 Government Committee; 12 Whereas, Representative Zent, a veteran of the U.S. Army 13 and U.S. Air Force, has spent his tenure advocating for Hoosier 14 veterans and their families, authoring legislation to help 20242290 HR 1530/DI 140 2024 2 1 military families that locate to Indiana and have children with 2 disabilities in need of medical care, to ensure that the Office of 3 Judicial Administration can work with the U.S. Department of 4 Veterans Affairs to identify veterans in the court system and 5 connect them with services like housing, physical and mental 6 health care, and employment, and to extend protections 7 provided by the federal Servicemembers Civil Relief Act to 8 members of the Indiana National Guard; 9 Whereas, Representative Zent is also a retired endodontist 10 and worked to expand Hoosiers' access to dental care in rural 11 and underserved areas, and he authored the Caregiver Advise, 12 Record, and Enable Act, which was created to better support 13 Hoosier family caregivers; 14 Whereas, In addition to his service as a state representative, 15 Representative Zent has been heavily involved in his community 16 through the American Legion, Angola Chamber of Commerce, 17 National Federation of Independent Business, American Dental 18 Association, and Indiana Dental Association. He's a member of 19 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and he served on the board of 20 directors for Cameron Hospital and Shepherds House, which 21 helps homeless veterans; 22 Whereas, Representative Zent is married to his wife of 53 23 years, Wendy, with whom he has two children, and he and his 24 wife happily reside in Angola; and 25 Whereas, Representative Zent has served his constituency 26 loyally and faithfully since his election to the House of 27 Representatives: Therefore, 28 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the 29 General Assembly of the State of Indiana: 30 SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives 31 honors Representative Denny Zent upon his retirement. 32 SECTION 2.
