1 A HOUSE RESOLUTION honoring Representative Bob
2 Cherry.
3 Whereas, Representative Bob Cherry, who was first elected
4 to represent the citizens of House District 53 in 1998, will be
5 leaving the House Chamber for the last time at the end of the
6 2024 Legislative Session;
7 Whereas, During his time in the House of Representatives,
8 Representative Cherry has served in a multitude of roles, but he
9 currently serves as the Vice Chair of the House Ways and
10 Means Committee, as an alternate on the State Budget
11 Committee, and as a member of the House Agriculture and
12 Rural Development Committee, House Elections and
13 Apportionment Committee, and House Rules and Legislative
14 Procedures Committee. During the interim, he is Chair of the
15 State Fair Advisory Committee and a member of the White

1 River State Park Development Commission;
2 Whereas, Representative Cherry has worked year after year
3 to ensure low taxes for Hoosiers and to responsibly manage
4 taxpayer funds through a balanced budget, and he has
5 advocated for Indiana's agriculture industry and Hoosier farm
6 families throughout his legislative career;
7 Whereas, In addition to his service as a state representative,
8 Representative Cherry is heavily involved in his local
9 community in Hancock and Madison counties, previously
10 serving as a Hancock County Councilman and as a member of
11 both the Hancock County Planning Commission and Greenfield
12 Board of Zoning Appeals, and he is a member of the Elks,
13 Kiwanis Club, Masonic Lodge, Murat Shrine, Farm Bureau,
14 and Greenfield Christian Church. He was appointed by the
15 governor to the State Board of Tax Commissioners and is the
16 former Chair of the Agricultural Advisory Council. He also
17 represented portions of Rush and Shelby counties in the
18 General Assembly;
19 Whereas, Over the course of his tenure in the Indiana House
20 of Representatives, Representative Cherry has received
21 numerous "Legislator of the Year" awards from various
22 organizations, including credit unions, small businesses, and
23 conservation officers;
24 Whereas, Representative Cherry earned his Bachelor of
25 Science degree from Purdue University in 1969 and received
26 the Honorary Master Farmer award from Indiana Prairie
27 Farmer magazine and the Purdue College of Agriculture in
28 2022;
29 Whereas, Representative Cherry is married to his wife Deb
30 with whom he has five adult children and 12 grandchildren;
31 and
32 Whereas, Representative Cherry has served his constituency
33 loyally and faithfully since his election to the Indiana House of
34 Representatives: Therefore,
35 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the

1 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
2 SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives
3 honors Representative Bob Cherry upon his retirement.
4 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
5 Representatives shall transmit a copy of this resolution to
6 Representative Bob Cherry.
