7	7	1 A HOUSE RESOLUTION honoring Representative Bob
8	8	2 Cherry.
9	9	3 Whereas, Representative Bob Cherry, who was first elected
10	10	4 to represent the citizens of House District 53 in 1998, will be
11	11	5 leaving the House Chamber for the last time at the end of the
12	12	6 2024 Legislative Session;
13	13	7 Whereas, During his time in the House of Representatives,
14	14	8 Representative Cherry has served in a multitude of roles, but he
15	15	9 currently serves as the Vice Chair of the House Ways and
16	16	10 Means Committee, as an alternate on the State Budget
17	17	11 Committee, and as a member of the House Agriculture and
18	18	12 Rural Development Committee, House Elections and
19	19	13 Apportionment Committee, and House Rules and Legislative
20	20	14 Procedures Committee. During the interim, he is Chair of the
21	21	15 State Fair Advisory Committee and a member of the White

24	24	1 River State Park Development Commission;
25	25	2 Whereas, Representative Cherry has worked year after year
26	26	3 to ensure low taxes for Hoosiers and to responsibly manage
27	27	4 taxpayer funds through a balanced budget, and he has
28	28	5 advocated for Indiana's agriculture industry and Hoosier farm
29	29	6 families throughout his legislative career;
30	30	7 Whereas, In addition to his service as a state representative,
31	31	8 Representative Cherry is heavily involved in his local
32	32	9 community in Hancock and Madison counties, previously
33	33	10 serving as a Hancock County Councilman and as a member of
34	34	11 both the Hancock County Planning Commission and Greenfield
35	35	12 Board of Zoning Appeals, and he is a member of the Elks,
36	36	13 Kiwanis Club, Masonic Lodge, Murat Shrine, Farm Bureau,
37	37	14 and Greenfield Christian Church. He was appointed by the
38	38	15 governor to the State Board of Tax Commissioners and is the
39	39	16 former Chair of the Agricultural Advisory Council. He also
40	40	17 represented portions of Rush and Shelby counties in the
41	41	18 General Assembly;
42	42	19 Whereas, Over the course of his tenure in the Indiana House
43	43	20 of Representatives, Representative Cherry has received
44	44	21 numerous "Legislator of the Year" awards from various
45	45	22 organizations, including credit unions, small businesses, and
46	46	23 conservation officers;
47	47	24 Whereas, Representative Cherry earned his Bachelor of
48	48	25 Science degree from Purdue University in 1969 and received
49	49	26 the Honorary Master Farmer award from Indiana Prairie
50	50	27 Farmer magazine and the Purdue College of Agriculture in
51	51	28 2022;
52	52	29 Whereas, Representative Cherry is married to his wife Deb
53	53	30 with whom he has five adult children and 12 grandchildren;

55	55	32 Whereas, Representative Cherry has served his constituency
56	56	33 loyally and faithfully since his election to the Indiana House of
57	57	34 Representatives: Therefore,

61	61	1 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
62	62	2 SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives
63	63	3 honors Representative Bob Cherry upon his retirement.
64	64	4 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
65	65	5 Representatives shall transmit a copy of this resolution to
66	66	6 Representative Bob Cherry.
