1 A HOUSE RESOLUTION honoring Jackson County
2 Sheriff's Deputy Mark Holt.
3 Whereas, On the evening of January 13, 2024, while driving
4 home, off-duty Sheriff's Deputy Mark Holt responded to a 911
5 call of a distressed woman who was trapped in her vehicle in
6 rapidly rising flood waters;
7 Whereas, Being within a mile of the location when the 911
8 call was first dispatched, Deputy Holt arrived on the scene to
9 find the woman still trapped with the water level up to her neck;
10 Whereas, Without hesitation, Deputy Holt quickly jumped
11 into the water to initiate the rescue, and he soon was able to
12 safely extract her from the vehicle;
13 Whereas, Fellow deputies, Seymour police, and other first

1 responders arrived on the scene and rushed the victim and
2 Deputy Holt to the Schneck Medical Center in Seymour for
3 evaluation and treatment; and
4 Whereas, Thanks to Deputy Holt's quick actions and
5 unwavering dedication to helping his community, on-duty and
6 off-duty, he was able to save the woman's life: Therefore,
7 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the
8 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
9 SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives
10 honors Jackson County Sheriff's Deputy Mark Holt for his
11 heroic actions.
12 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
13 Representatives shall transmit a copy of this resolution to State
14 Representative Jim Lucas for distribution.
