1 A HOUSE RESOLUTION honoring the Fort Wayne
2 TinCaps on their 15th anniversary.
3 Whereas, On October 2, 2008, the Fort Wayne TinCaps
4 changed their name from the Fort Wayne Wizards;
5 Whereas, The Fort Wayne TinCaps are a minor league
6 baseball team of the Midwest League and the High-A affiliate
7 of the San Diego Padres;
8 Whereas, The TinCaps name is a reference to John
9 Chapman, better known as Johnny Appleseed, famous for the
10 tin cooking pot he wore as a hat. Chapman spent his final years
11 in Fort Wayne and is buried there;
12 Whereas, The organization received a lot of negative

1 feedback after changing their name, but the fans of the team
2 have come to love the new name;
3 Whereas, By the end of the first season, the TinCaps had the
4 top selling logo in Minor League Baseball and the team store
5 is much more popular now than when the team was known as
6 the Wizards;
7 Whereas, Parkview Field became the new home of the
8 TinCaps in 2009;
9 Whereas, The TinCaps won the 2009 Midwest League
10 championship, and they have clinched playoff spots in every
11 season since 2009 with the exception of 2016; and
12 Whereas, The Fort Wayne TinCaps have strong support from
13 the Fort Wayne community: Therefore,
14 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the
15 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
16 SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives
17 honors the Fort Wayne TinCaps on the 15th anniversary of their
18 name change.
19 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
20 Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to State
21 Representative Phil GiaQuinta for distribution.
